Scotstown overcame last year's runners-up Magheracloone to progress to a sixth successive Monaghan SFC final.

Kieran Donnelly's charges have their sights firmly set on a four-in-a-row of Mick Duffy Cups following a 1-17 to 2-11 semi-final win yesterday.

They were never headed after racing into a 1-4 to 0-0 lead with just six minutes gone. Francis Maguire raised the green flag for the champions before goals from Liam Og Murray and Peter Ward dragged Magheracloone back into contention.

Conor McCarthy and Shane Carey, who scored 0-9 between them over the hour, steadied the Scotstown ship with a brace of points to help them to a 1-10 to 2-5 advantage at the short whistle.

Scotstown had the luxury of introducing county star Kieran Hughes off the bench in the second half as they remained in control until the final whistle.

Their final opponents on October 7 will be Ballybay after Paul Finlay (0-7) inspired the Pearse Brothers to a 1-15 to 1-8 success over Clontibret in the second game at Clones.

Ballybay trailed by 1-2 to 0-1 early on with Conor McManus netting the Clontibret goal. Christopher McGuinness found the net for the winners six minutes after the restart as they booked their place in the decider for the first time since 2012.
