Garrycastle and Mullingar Shamrocks have completed the Westmeath SFC semi-final line-up following their respective quarter-final victories over local rivals Athlone and The Downs today.

In what was by no means a dirty game before a bumper crowd in Tubberclair, five players were sent off as Garrycastle recorded a surprisingly comfortable 0-14 to 0-7 victory over Athlone. Matthew Guiheen (Garrycastle) and Mickey Greene (Athlone) were first to go on straight red cards for an off-the-ball incident, while Garrycastle's James Dolan and Athlone sub Darren Costello received second yellows for separate incidents in the closing stages. Jordan Marshment was also black-carded in the 57th minute for Athlone who had used their full complement of subs by then and finished with 12 players as a result.

Alex Gardiner scored 0-8 (0-6) in an excellent display, while veteran Dessie Dolan was also influential as Garrycastle set up a semi-final date with four-in-a-row chasing St. Loman's on October 7.

In the other quarter-final at TEG Cusack Park this evening, first half goals from Jordan Warde and Dean Moore propelled Mullingar Shamrocks to a surprise 2-8 to 0-8 win over The Downs. Ned Moore's charges will now face Tyrrellspass for a place in the county final.
