Drumcliffe/Rosses Point club notes

July 22, 2019

Congrats to our boys minor footballers who claimed the 2019 league shield title on Saturday with a 2-10 to 2-3 win against Coolaney/Mullinabreena in Scarden. Captained by Jack O’Connor, the team performed very well. Well done to all the players and their management team of Des Henry and Paul Logan. The lads now prepare for their opening ‘B’championship game away to Tubbercurry/Cloonacool this Thursday evening at 7pm.

Hard luck to our club players involved with the Sligo women’s gaelic football team who were beaten by Kildare by four points last Sunday in their latest All-Ireland qualifier in Tubbercurry. The team can still reach the knockout stages of the intermediate championship if they beat Limerick this weekend.

Incidentally, the Kildare team at Kilcoyne Park included a former club player of DRP, Siobhán O’Sullivan, who played her part in Kildare’s win.

Hard luck to the Benbulben Gaels U14 hurlers were were beaten by Naomh Eoin in last Wednesday’s league final by 4-10 to 3-4.

Our senior men’s footballers begin their Belfry senior club championship campaign this Saturday, July 27th, when they play Eastern Harps at Connolly Park in Collooney in their opening group match. Throw-in is at 12pm. We are in a five-team group along with Coolaney/Mullinabreena,  Calry/St Joseph’s and Coolera/Strandhill. The top four teams in the group will qualify for the quarter-finals.

Our boys U14 footballers made a winning start to their ‘A’ championship last week with an impressive 11-point win over Easkey/St Farnan’s. Their next game is on August 2nd.

The girls U14 footballers are at home to Eoghan Rua this Thursday evening at 7pm.

Our U16 girls footballers play St Molaise Gaels in the ‘A’ championship next Monday evening (July 29th) in Oxfield at 7pm.
