Offaly mourns Dermot O'Brien and Alo Kelly

May 12, 2019

Tony Leavy RIP.

Offaly GAA followers were saddened to learn of the deaths of Tullamore natives Dermot O’Brien and Alo Kelly this week.

Dermot was a former London GAA chairman and Central Council delegate who kept the Offaly flag flying in the English capital down the years through his involvement in the Offaly Association. He also ran for the GAA presidency in the early 1990s, not long after another Tullamore clubman, John Dowling, had held the highest office.

Alo Kelly was a member of the first Offaly team to win a Leinster senior football championship in 1960. He was also part of the Fr Tom Gilhooley-led management team that masterminded the Faithful County’s back-to-back All-Ireland SFC triumphs of 1971 and ’72. Like Dermot, he spent time in London and also had a spell as Offaly GAA chairman.

May they both rest in peace.
