Monaghan manager Malachy O’Rourke accepts that there are pros and cons to making April a club-only month.
Despite having lost key midfielder Darren Hughes to a broken ankle earlier in the month, O’Rourke says “you have to be fair to the clubs, as well”:
“One of the biggest problems is when the players come back on a Tuesday after a game on the Sunday – fellas may have been injured at the weekend and other fellas are tight – so it’s a case of having to manage them,” he states in The Irish News.
“And you’re not able to do the training you would like, so you’d obviously prefer a full month of preparation where you can dictate what you’re doing all the time. But it’s just not possible with the club month. I suppose it’s a necessary evil, if you want to call it that, and trying to get football for everybody.”
