Mixed fortunes for Killyon in the opening round of the Hurling Leagues

The first round of the Hurling Leagues took place at the weekend, under a warm April sun.

Our seniors took on Na Fianna on Saturday. A repeat of round 2 of the Brendan Davis Cup a few weeks previous. Killyon looking to get back to winning ways from a midweek defeat to Kildalkey. However, Na Fianna had other plans.

Na Fianna were first to score, putting up a few points on the board. Killyon responded with a goal thanks to Keith Keoghan. However, Killyon never really found a rhythm after that.

Halftime score was 1:04 to 1:13 to Na Fianna.

Killyon started the second half better, bringing the difference between the teams back down to 5 points. However, Killyon were left with 14 men less than 10 mins into the second half.

Na Fianna saw out the game winning on a scoreline of 2-20 to 1-12. A disappointing game for our seniors.

The opening round for our juniors in Division 4 saw them take on Drumree. Throw-in at 12.30 would've been tough to play in that heat. Nevertheless, the 15 Killyon men that lined out showed no signs of fatigue, 3 of which were playing in their third hurling game, within the space of 4 days.

A solid first half performance saw Killyon up 1-7 to 4 points at halftime. The goal coming from Justin Coyne.

Killyon came out even stronger in the second half putting in a massive shift scoring 3 more goals thanks to Coyne again, Aaron Duignan and David Kennedy.

Final score on the day 4-17 to 1-6. Our juniors getting their year off to a great start.
