Mayo came from behind to defeat Monaghan by 4-24 to 2-8 in Castlebar and mark a winning start to their Nickey Rackard Cup campaign.
After goals from Niall Garland and Niall Arthur saw the visitors take in a 2-5 to 0-9 lead at the half, the Westerners came up with the goods in the second-half to shut out their opponents.
Joseph Burke’s goal five minutes into the resumption surged them in front and they wouldn’t look back as Sean Regan added another major and they’d have their third with 10 minutes to go.
Liam Lavin rounded off Mayo’s tally by rifling to the Farney men’s net in injury-time, marking an exceptional second-half from the home side that saw them outscoring their Ulster counterparts by 4-19 to 0-3.
