Mayo 'keeper O'Malley transfers to Roscommon

Former Mayo and current Roscommon goalkeeper Paddy O'Malley.

Former Mayo goalkeeper Paddy O'Malley has transferred to neighbouring Roscommon under the GAA's parentage rule.

The Connaught Telegraph is reporting that O'Malley, who kept goal for Westport when they won the All-Ireland club IFC title in 2017 and who lined out for Mayo in last year's Connacht FBD League, is eligible to play for the Rossies as his mother is a native of the county.

O'Malley, who is expected to continue playing club football with Westport, could make his debut in Sunday's Connacht FBD League opener against Sligo in Markievicz Park. Last year, Kerry's Conor Cox joined Roscommon under the parentage rule and ended up being the scoring star of their surprise Connacht SFC triumph.
