FL3A & 3B round-up: Roche and Nicks win again

April 08, 2019

Roche Emmets picked up their second win in Division 3A when they defeated neighbours Nh Malachi by 0-13 to 1-1 at Courtbane.

Roche were on top from the start and points from Barry O’Hare, Kevin Callaghan, Shane Byrne and Liam Dawe put them 0-9 to 0-1 ahead. Just before the break Colin Hoey pulled a goal back for the Mals.

However, the home side were unable to mount a comeback as scores from Glen Stewart and Evin Quigley helped Roche come out on top.

Na Piarsaigh recovered from their opening day defeat to Roche Emmets as they came out on top by 1-9 to 0-9 against Glen Emmets.

The Tullyallen men had the better of the game in the first half and scores from James Butler, Isaac Walsh, Andrew Mooney and Robbie Byrne helped them to lead by 0-7 to 0-4 at half time. Alan McCartney and Conall Shields replied for Na Piarsaigh.

The Dundalk side picked up the pace in the second half and hit back through Robert Murphy and Eamonn McAuley before a goal from substitute Stephen Arrowsmith gave them victory.

St Nicholas made it two wins from two in Division 3B when they recorded a 4-8 to 2-11 over Sean McDermotts in Mountrush.

Paddy Murtagh scored two early goals before Sam Reilly added a third to make it 3-2 to 1-3 for the visitors at the break. Lorcan Myles pulled a goal back for the Seans. The second half saw the McDermotts battle their way back in to contention but the Nicks responded with a fourth goal from Kierans. Lorcan Myles struck a late consolation goal from the penalty spot for the hosts but it was too late to save the game.

Westerns fought back from a sluggish start before they came out with a 2-11 to 1-6 win over Wolfe Tones at Reaghstown.

Jack Ogle top-scored for the winners with 1-6 and his first half goal helped keep his side in touch at the break as they trailed by 1-5 to 1-3 with Darren Weldon netting for the Tones.

The Westerns upped the gears after the restart and a Tommy Durnin goal along with points from Ciaran Campbell and Ryan Duffy ensured they came out on top.

It took a late Noel Finnegan free to see Dowdallshill salvage a 0-11 apiece draw from this Division 3B round two fixture, played on a perfect surface in ideal conditions at St Brigid’s Park.

Jody Keenan and Cian McDonald were on target for the Omeath side in response to efforts from Finnegan as the first half ended with the teams level at four points each.

The Hill went 0-8 to 0-5 ahead in the third quarter but with Keenan and Micheal McCabe on target the Gaels edged ahead. However, Finnegan struck late to earn a share of the spoils.

In the remaining game in the division, John Mitchels came from behind to defeat Annaghminnon Rovers by 2-12 to 0-11.

With the help of scores from David Marron and Conor Russell it was Annaghminnon who led by 0-8 to 0-5 at the break.

However, the Mitchels took control in the second half and goals from Rory Durnin and Stephen Coyle saw them come out on top.
