Even without their county players there is no stopping Newtown Blues this season as the Division 1 league leaders stretched their winning run to five games thanks to a 4-11 to 1-12 win over Nh Mairtin at Monasterboice on Friday evening.

However, it wasn't looking good in the opening period as the Mairtins had the better of the game and a JP Rooney goal saw them lead by 1-7 to 1-4 at half time with Ian Connor hitting the net for the Blues.

The Blues moved up a gear in the second half and goals from Robert Carr, Ian Connor and John Kermode saw them run out comfortable winners.

Dreadnots moved into second place after coming out on top away to Clan na Gael by 3-12 to 1-8 and in the process inflict a first defeat of the season on the Dundalk men.

The hosts started well and led by 0-3 to 0-1 in the early stages but with the help of scores from James Califf, Peter Kirwan and Liam Shevlin the Clogherhead side scored eight without reply to lead by 0-9 to 0-3 at the break.

Goals from Liam Shevlin and Karl Monaghan in the third quarter had the Dreadnots very much in control. The Clans rallied briefly with a goal from a Billy Smith penalty but the visitors sealed the victory when Cathal Lynch added a third goal.

Mattock Rangers joined Dreadnots and Clans in second place on seven points thanks to a 0-12 to 0-10 win away to Sean O'Mahonys.

David Reid was once again the inspiration for the visitors as he scored eight of his side's points to consign the Dundalk men to a third successive defeat.

The former Louth player was in fine form in the opening half as his team led by 0-7 to 0-6 at the break. Stephen Kilcoyne carried the fight for the O'Mahonys with five points but it wasn't enough to prevent his side suffering another defeat.

An injury-time point from Evan White saw St Patricks rescue a seven points apiece draw at home to Dundalk Gaels.

The visitors looked to be heading for an important win when they led by 0-7 to 0-4 at the end of the third quarter. However, scores from Paddy Keenan and Cathal Grogan cut the gap before White pointed to secure a third draw of the season for his side.

In a game that was level at three points each at the break, the Gaels had Jason Clarke, Sean McCann and Niall Hearty among the scorers.

St Marys eye for a goal proved decisive as they came out on top against St Brides by 4-13 to 0-17 in a high-scoring encounter at Pairc Mhuire.

Two of those goals came in the first half courtesy of Darragh McConnon and Jamie Rooney as the Ardee men went in at the break leading by 2-8 to 0-9. Kevin Hearty and Conaill Devin were among the scorers for the visitors.

Ross Kehoe and Aaron Hoey helped keep the Brides in the game but their hopes were ended with two goals in quick succession from Mark Fay and Darren Clarke to clinch the win for St Marys.

Cooley Kickhams collected their first win of the season on Saturday night when they defeated Geraldines by 2-13 to 0-12 at Fr McEvoy Park.

The Gers were in good form in the first half and with Paddy Geoghegan, Michael Rogers, Shaun Callan and Conor Rafferty on target, they went in at the break leading by 0-11 to 1-3. Michael Rafferty scored the only goal of the half to keep the hosts in the game.

The second period saw Cooley dominate and points from Brian White and a second goal from Rafferty saw them come out on top as the Gers could only add one point after the break.
