Division 1 League: Abbeylara 2-09 Dromard 1-12: On Saturday, our senior panel took on Abbeylara in Round 6 of the league. The game was played in perfect conditions in Lynch Park on a fine summer evening.  Dromard made a slow start to the game with Abbeylara opening up a 1-3 to 0-2 points lead after 10 minutes, both Dromard scores from the boot of Francis McGee. Dromard were fortunate not to fall further behind during this period with Abbeylara missing a number of good goal-scoring chances. Dromard eventually settled into the game and a Diarmuid Masterson goal with 22 minutes played, followed by an excellent Francis McGee point, left Dromard well in contention, trailing by just a single score at the break 1-5 to 1-4. Dromard's play improved in the second half with scores by Francis McGee (play and frees), Diarmaid Masterson (three from play), Pauric Martin and Ronan Bleakley - a fine point from a narrow angle - saw Dromard open up a three point lead. In the dying minutes, a sweeping Abbeylara move down the centre of the field resulted in a goal to tie up the match at the finish, Dromard's third draw in six games. Team: Gavin McNerney; Paul McGee, Pauric Martin, Kevin Kane; Peter Reynolds, John Sheridan, James Mimnagh; Bryan McCormack, Diarmuid Masterson; Joseph Hagan, Bernard Sheridan, Dylan McCormack; Francis McGee, Ronan Bleakley, James Martin. Subs: Niall Vance, Jason Murtagh, Michael Reilly.

Division 1 League: Dromard will play Mostrim in Round 7 of the senior league in Páirc na nGael on Sunday next (15th July) at 12:30. Please support the team as they aim to build on last week's draw against Abbeylara.

Dromard Ladies Club Notes

County Matters: Hard luck to Longford U/14s who travelled to Carlow last Saturday for a Leinster Blitz. Placed in a very strong group with Dublin, Meath and Offaly they were to lose all 3 matches, but even so had an enjoyable day out. Well done to our 2 County Players, Kate McEntire and Louise Tierney who togged out on the day. Great effort girls. On Sunday the County Senior Panel play their first group match in the All Ireland Intermediate Championship against Sligo in Strokestown, throw in at 2.00pm. Good Luck to the 4 Dromard Ladies, Michelle Kilkenny,Sarah Reynolds, Mairead Reynolds and Cait Murphy and their teammates.

Fixtures and Results: This week was not kind to Dromard. A reorganisation of the Summer Leagues saw Monday's U/12 match postponed, Wednesdays U/16s also postponed, whilst Thursday saw our U/14s along with the referee wait in vain as neither the original opponents nor the rearranged opponents turned up. All in all, a disappointing week. However, things look to be sorted for this week with U/12s and U/16s both due to play on Monday and our U/14s playing away to Grattans tomorrow (Thursday) throw in 7pm. There is also a blitz on Saturday in Killoe for our U/8 and U/10 girls throwing in at 11am.

Cul Camp: Thanks to the organisers and trainers for running the first of this year's camps in Dromard. As always a huge crowd of youngsters enjoyed the good weather and the fun and games on offer. Continuing on with the theme our own Ladies turned our regular training morning on Saturday into a Fun in the Sun morning, a welcome change according to our teenage members especially.

Longford Senior Championship: We played our second round match away to Carrickedmond on Friday last, and it was to prove another baptism of fire. We knew this year would be a big challenge after 2 promotions in 2 years but the girls are warming to the task as they realise the standard required and with a steady stream of U/16 and Minors also being involved by the manager this will stand the club in good stead going forward. They now look forward to the next match. We would like to wish our goalkeeper Michelle Kilkenny a speedy recovery from her injury sustained in the match, and hope she can soon return to the fray.

Birthday Girls: There is a raft of Birthdays falling last week and this so here comes the list: Paige Robinson and Orla McGauran are 14, Lauren Conboy 12,Tara Gray 11, Ruth Cosgrove 9, and Michaela Farrell and Shauna Reynolds are both 7. That's a lot of parties to go to! Happy Birthday Ladies from all your teammates in Dromard.
