County Senior Football League:

St. Kieran’s 2.16 Ballysteen 0.6

The senior footballers booked their place in the County league final last with a comprehensive victory over Ballysteen in Coolcappagh. We played some excellent football throughout the game to build up a comprehensive lead over a team we have struggled against in recent years. With Friday’s win we now advance to our first County League final in many years where near neighbours Newcastle west will provide the opposition. This is a timely boost ahead of our upcoming county championship encounter against Drom/Broadford on the weekend of Friday July 26.

West Junior A Hurling Championship Round 2

St. Kieran’s 2.16 Askeaton 2.18

There was disappointment for the junior hurlers in round 2 of the west championship this past week as they went down to Askeaton. In a highly entertaining game we put together some excellent passages of play in the opening half to lead by a point at the interval by the slightest of margins. Alas as the second half ensued Askeaton upped the ante and things began to go against us. As the game drew to a conclusion we began to push hard in search of the all-important goal to give us the win. Unfortunately our hard work went unrewarded, as we laided siege on the Askeaton goal we were adjudged to have overcarried the ball and a free out was awarded and thus the game went against us. The players put in a fine performance and while it is always disappointing to lose, escpecially close encounters such as this, the competitive nature of the performance was very encouraging. With that round 3 against Feenagh/Kilmeedy is now a must-win game if we stand any chance of progression Into the West quarter final.

Intercounty Activity:

Best wishes to John Hayes, Noel Callanan and Kevin Guina who are part of the Limerick u20 football panel who travel to Tralee this Thursday evening for the Munster U20 semi-final. Following their outstanding victory over Tipperary last Tuesday evening Limerick now face a huge task against the reigning Munster champions, many of whom have All Ireland minor championship medals at their disposal from 2018, 2017 and 2016. Both Noel and John were part of the winning Limerick side last Tuesday, putting in excellent performances. It was great to see that both players had their shooting boots on with Noel scoring 1.3 and John Kicking 3 points from frees after being introduced after five minutes. Thursday’s game throws in at 7pm in Austin Stack Park, Tralee.

Also we were well represented on the Limerick u16 football panel last weekend, with four representatives Conor Woulfe, Cormac Mann, Cathal McEnery and Shane Fitzgerald part of the Limerick panel which participated in the Woodlands House Hotel Championship.

Minor Hurling:

The minor hurlers are back in action this Friday evening when they travel to Kileedy to take on Kileedy/Tournafulla in round 5 of the west championship. So far we sit second in group 1 on four points following two draws and a win over Croagh/Kilfinny-Rathkeale, while our only loss so far came against a very strong Newcastlewest side. Friday night’s game throws in at 7.30
