Fenagh St Caillins club notes

February 19, 2019

Oliver Doonan R.I.P. - It is with great sadness that we learned of the untimely death of Oliver Doonan, Cloodrumman Mór. Oliver epitomised all that was good about our community in Fenagh. A day never passed that he wasn’t seen working tirelessly in some part of the Parish ensuring that our scenic countryside was looking its best. As a devoted community man Oliver never sought praise for his work but was often cast into the limelight to fulfill the role of master of ceremonies at many sporting and community events in our Parish or the role of quizmaster for the annual Christmas Quiz. He brought his own unique take to these events with his wit and knowledge of all things related to current affairs, history, geography and sport. Whatever the occasion Oliver never refused to oblige. He played a very important role down through the years in Fenagh St Caillins Gaa Club. As a player in the 70’s and 80’s he always gave of his all. One of his earliest roles as an administrator was in 1982 when he took up the position of Assistant Secretary. He subsequently served as Club Secretary for 11 years and served as Chairman of the Club over two separate terms. He was involved in the preparation of Scór question time teams representing the Club down through the years. At County Board level he served as Assistant Secretary with Leitrim County Board in the period 90-92. He was involved in the revival of Handball in Leitrim taking up the role of Secretary of Leitrim Handball in 1990. Oliver’s loss will be greatly felt by all those who were lucky to know and work with him but his loss will of course be felt all the more by his loving family. On behalf of Fenagh St Caillins Gaa Club we express our deepest sympathies to Oliver’s wife Eileen and his son Martin, to his brothers Pat Joe, Micheál and Kevin and to his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

Sympathies - Fenagh St Caillins Gaa Club also express our sympathies to the family of the late Anthony Cull, Castlefore who passed away  unexpectedly last week.
