Laois manager John Sugrue is in no doubt that they need to improve their performance levels if they are to defeat Westmeath in Saturday's Leinster SFC quarterfinal.

The sides meet in O'Connor Park, Tullamore this weekend. Laois already have a championship game under their belt following their extra time win over Wexford.

At one stage in that game, Laois trailed by ten points and Sugrue stressed to the Leinster Express that they simply can't afford to let that happen against an experienced Westmeath side.

"They are a top quality side. They have top performers in Kieran Martin and John Heslin. John Egan and all these guys. Alan Stone plays a big role for them too. The goalkeeper Carberry. So they have lots of top quality performers all over the field," Sugrue pointed out.

"We are going to have to be at the top of our team powers - so as a team we are going to have to operate as efficiently as we can to try get a performance out of ourselves where we can compete. Maybe we will be in it with the last five or ten minutes and see where we go from there."
