Westmeath are to appoint Joe Quaid as their new senior hurling manager.

No sooner has it been announced that the former Limerick goalkeeper was stepping down as Kildare manager, hoganstand.com can confirm that he will now take over Westmeath.

Quaid guided Kildare to Christy Ring Cup glory this year, but having spent the last three years at the helm, he has opted to step down from the position.

Westmeath GAA have been on the look out for a new hurling manager since Michael Ryan announced that he was stepping down following the All-Ireland SHC preliminary quarterfinal defeat to Wexford.

In the past, Quaid has had huge success with the Limerick camogie side and while he also tasted glory with the Lilywhites, this will be his biggest task to date.

The Lake County lost the NHL 2A and Joe McDonagh Cup finals to Carlow this year and the aim will be to go a step further in 2019.
