Winning starts for Kilkenny and Offaly in Leinster U20HC

Kilkenny hit Wexford for four goals this afternoon to help themselves get off to a winning start in the Tier 1 of the Leinster U20 hurling championship.

It finished 4-21 to 2-14 at UPMC Nowlan Park, where the home side grabbed first-half goals via Marty Murphy and Cillian Hackett prior to Niall Shorthall adding their third major five minutes into the restart and Murphy netting their fourth late on.

The other Tier 1 clash saw Offaly edge Dublin by 1-18 to 2-14 at Parnell Park, where Barry Egan’s injury-time point proved the difference for the visitors.

In Tier 2, Meath came from behind to earn a draw with neighbours Westmeath, as it finished 0-20 to 2-14 in Navan, while Carlow were 1-16 to 2-10 winners over Kerry at Netwatch Cullen Park.

Meanwhile, today’s results in the Tier 2 of the Leinster minor hurling championship saw Offaly defeating Antrim (3-17 to 1-17) in Darver and Meath victorious over Wicklow in Aughrim where it finished 1-17 to 1-14.
