Spillane writes Red Hands off

Tyrone's Matthew Donnelly kicks a ball and breaks a flagstick in half at the same time during the Ulster SFC semi final against Donegal.

Pat Spillane feels Tyrone have no chance of reaching an All-Ireland final this summer.

Mickey Harte’s men took on Dublin in last year’s Sam Maguire decider but looked decidedly ordinary when dumped out of the 2019 Ulster SFC by Donegal at the semi-final stage last Saturday week.

“Tyrone’s slim chance of winning the All-Ireland title this year has now disappeared without trace,” Kerry legend Spillane writes in his Irish Independent column. “Frankly, I will be flabbergasted if they repeat last year’s feat and reach another final.

“Let’s be honest, they flattered to deceive last summer. Meath ought to have beaten them in the first round of the qualifiers and they fell over the line against a very average Monaghan side in the semi-final. Even though they have traditionally done well in the qualifiers, I can’t see their luck holding again this summer.”
