‘Man-of-the-match’ Diarmuid O’Connor dedicated Mayo’s league final victory over Kerry today to the county’s loyal legion of supporters.

“They’re unbelievable, the Mayo supporters don’t need any introduction at this stage,” the victorious captain told TG4’s GAA BEO shortly after the final whistle.

“They’ve been with us through the good days and the bad days. Everything we do, we do it for them.”

A first league success in 18 years helps to make up for past final disappointments but O’Connor insisted that, as a team, they are only focused on the here and now.

“It’s been a long time but to be honest we weren’t thinking of the last few years.

“It’s a brand new year this year, new management, new players in and we just focused on this year.

“We just improved on the basics and got the basics right. We made a few small errors in the first-half, we corrected a few things at half-time, stepped it up a gear and thankfully it came right at the end.”
