UCD are through to the last eight of the Fitzgibbon Cup following a seven-point round 3 victory over GMIT today.
The Belfield college are travelling home from Carnmore this evening with a 4-19 to 2-18 win under their belts.
The visitors shaded a closely fought first-half by 2-9 to 1-11 before going on to seal a quarter-final berth after the break, thanks to goals from Dublin duo Kevin Desmond and Ronan Hayes (penalty).
DCU moved comfortably into the quarter-finals of the Fitzgibbon Cup later in the evening after easing by Trinity College on a 4-25 to 1-11 score-line at Santry Avenue.
The winners were never troubled in this one, racing 1-6 to nothing in front before Trinity shot over four points to pull themselves back into contention.
However, with Wexford star Rory O’Connor to the fore, DCU went on a relentless goal spree afterwards to leave the scoreboard reading 4-10 to 0-6.
Donnacha Butler pulled back a consolation goal for Trinity but it was their capital counterparts that were safely through to a home quarter-final next week.
