Clare Hurling

Replying To LohansRedHelmet:  "Didnt see this thread before. Absolute stupidity. I know people like to get ahead of themselves when the hurling starts up again, but I can assure you that regardless even how the KK game went, Clare's focus this year is on Limerick in the championship not the league. If we stay up that will be a bonus but the only game that matters is Limerick.

To be writing a team with the talent of Clare off in February is crazy. Tipp are ahead at the moment but I seriously believe that Clare have the best squad to challenge them. Take Sunday for example:- We were missing 6 All Stars in McGrath, Kelly, Donnellan (albeit he came on), David Mc, Conor Ryan and Galvin. 5 of these will probably start come championship in addition to our captain Pat O Connor. Other than Tipp, name another team that could be missing that level of talent and give KK their biggest ever defeat under Cody? No one is the answer. Clare hurling is in a good place at the moment talent wise. The new management team will be judged on the championship only. With our level of strength and depth I would be disgusted if we dont beat Limerick."
Fantastic win for Clare. Clare have some excellent players. But theres a somewhat premature attitude coming from clare posters. Keep it up andLimerick will win with a few points to spare in June. As it stands it's a 50/50 match. Don't think for one minute that Limerick won't fancy taking Clare in June.

And if Clare posters dont continue to post what what you call a "premature attitude" are Limerick likely then to lose?

What's premature about what I said?

I said that we are not focusing on the league and will hopefully stay up. I said we are focusing on Limerick. I said that I would be disgusted if we don't beat Limerick. Is that what you have taken exception to?

I know it is 50/50 because that's always the case with Clare v Limerickbut that doesn't mean I would be any less sickened I genuinely believe we have better players than Limerick and that's my opinion. You can have hatveee opinion you like.

Not really open for discussion on a public forum. He is not currently being considered but that may change.

In any event, I have heard rumors that he is off to the States again this summer.

There must be an official line, though? Medical, personal, family, work commitments...

That would be a shame because he's got class written all over him. Galvin is more important to the Clare season than Kelly. To answer your previous question..yes Clare have 1 or 2 outstanding players who are a step above what we have. That was the same in 55 when Limerick beat Clare pulling up and you could say so in the early 80s. However Limerick had much better players in 93 and went and lout in Ennis. It's what makes the rivalry what it is...

Replying To Pinkie:  "People overreact during the opening round of the league, something akin to a pack of bullocks let out of a shed at the end of the winter!!

Clare won an All-Ireland from 1B, teams are experimenting at this time of year, I put little creedence on the league especially where new players are being blooded."
Pinkie
Forgive me, but Clare did not win the All Irealnd out of 1B. There was a replayed relegation game earlier that year and Clare beat Cork and the latter were relegated. So they were werein in 1A for the 13 league and stayed there.

it isn't impossible that there could be 6 changes to the Clare team that beat Kilkenny for the championship match depending on form

pat Kelly and tony Kelly, Pat o connor , david mcinerney, Colm Galvin, and conor McGrath could all be selected.
all absolutely proven intercounty hurlers with an all Ireland medal won on the field of play.
pat donnellan and the other 4 ballyea players in the squad as well . Limerick do not have that type of quality in my view.

Whatever else happens this season Clares preparations will be controlled organized and geared towards the championship alone. There simply wont be the level of histrionics and hype around the team that has gone on in the past.
Players who deliver will be selected, those who don't wont, and most importantly the focus will be on skill athleticism and game intelligence on the field not on endless swessions about where you need to be in elaborate tactical plans

Regardless of how many fine players will be coming back into the Clare team for the Limerick match in June - you'd be a fool to think this game is anything other than 50/50.
Its Championship, its once off and you have rivalry.

There's also the sequence - For a long time now its been alternate victories Clare/Limerick/Clare/Limerick etc
No need to remind people its Limericks turn to win!

Clare's victory of the dismal Cats last Sunday has been blown out of all proportions - somewhat similar to last year. Clare's championship form is dire and that includes playing with all the talent mentioned on this tread.

June will be interesting - 50/50

No. It is nothing Limericks turn. They won in 20165, when they last met.
