I remember hearing of young Spillane last year but I thought he had dropped off the panel .
Best of luck to him anyway he comes from great stock between the lynes from Killarney and of course the Spillanes from templenoe.
Dublin for Sam and Kerry for the holidays eh!

Unreal talent. This lad could be better than Cooper.

Gael85 they were saying the same about James O Donoghue a few years ago but injuries really curtailed his progress. The Gooch avoided anything serious until his cruciate a few years back and was at the top of his game for over a decade.
I would hope to see Clifford become a star but we have all seen the best of a minor crop fall away spectaculary for a number of counties in the last decade.

Ya remember Barry John Walsh and paddy curran never made it due to injuries.
One step at a time with young Clifford.

The goal he scored against Galway last year was unbelievable. He could be off to Oz yet to play Aussie Rules.

I don't think he has any interest in going to oz , but of course uncle Tadhg will be whispering in his ear promising him the sun the moon and the stars.

How's Colin o'riordan getting on out there?

Looks a player the lad, hopefully he stays grounded and develops through the age groups it is hoped.

Always good to see new generations being born between the King Cons and Cliffards etc, some great years of football ahead (hopefully).

Honestly I've seen great minors like Ciaran Kilkenny, Con O Callaghan , Spillane's nephew etc but I've never seen anything as good as this kid Clifford he is unbelievable. My one only concern for him is his size I can't think of to many players that big who have long careers in the Gaa playing in the forwards, injury always seems to creep up. I hope I'm wrong with him cause he's class. Now please don't Donaghy cause he's a completely different player to Clifford , Clifford has the pace and Skill of a Gooch in a Donaghy size body.

Yes he could be the next big thing alright, great player, his size would also concern me, but not because of injury but because of the AFL.

For Kerry posters.

Is Clifford near the senior panel? presume if Kerry minors lost he'd be called in..

I'd have him up there Pele and Federer at this stage.

Very doubtful. Eamon Fitzmaurice has plenty of inside forwards to pick from already. Guys like Stephen O'Brien and Barry John Keane can't get a start as it is.

That would be the last thing a kid like that would need in any case, could you imagine the pressure he'd be under if he was brought in now. Maybe next year if he keeps going and has a good year with the U20's. He is scarily good for a minor.

He's a good player for sure Gerry but he's been blessed to have some brilliant players playing with him as well,

In the Munster final against Clare when he went off with 5 mins to go the other forwards scored 2:03.

Fair enough. If your good enough your old enough though.

I know ye have plenty of forward talent but i'd put Clifford ahead of BJ Keane. Don't really rate him.

Yeah true about having a good team around him, and he also has a considerable size advantage at this level, he'd lose that by taking the step up to senior. You definitely feel his time will come though, he seems to be the complete package. I remember watching Marc O'Connor at minor level and thinking it would be a long time before we see a minor that good again, next thing along comes Clifford!

@Laois76 I know what you are saying about BJK, he is not an elite forward, but time and again he is sprung from the bench and he gets 2-3 points. That kind of player is as important as a starting forward these days.

Replying To TheHermit:  "Plenty reckon down here that our latest export bound for Australia, Mark O'Connor, was the best minor that's come out of the Kingdom in years.

Most likely the Listowel Aussie will have Clifford ear's full of the false promise of AFL well before he gets a chance to stake a claim on the Senior team.

Its the social and economic reality now for counties like Kerry in post recession Ireland. We have no jobs or quality of life to offer our young people, especially when all the Government and the GAA seem to care about is making sure Dublin and the East Coast is looked after."
Indeed. I read somewhere that last year over 96% of all new jobs were in Dublin. There is no vision for a national economy, no vision for a national infrastructure, no vision for a thriving society outside Dublin. The GAA does a power of work to retain a sense of community in rural areas; something that metropolitan pundits (whose 'knowledge' of the GAA is confined to inter-county games in Croke Park) know nothing about. Only saw Clifford briefly, and yes he could be one of those to make it at senior level - not just a talented player, but plays with great confidence; you need that self-belief to make the step-up.
