Donegal 2011 - I feel it in me bones.

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Ah it was a very harsh sending off in my opinion, a late shoulder from where I was sitting although I was a wee bit away. A warning would've done. I couldn't really see the Tyrone lads sending off either, he went in late with a boot I think and a few of our lads came in after him then, ref could've handled that better overall as well I think. But overall he had a decent enough game, let some things go which other refs would blow for but I prefer a flowing game. No need to blow for every pull back if the attacking player breaks free.

The u-21 tactics were on show but not quite as much as I expected. However I'd put that down to maybe getting the team organised more than Jim not choosing to go that route. Once Murphy and everyone is involved for the league I expect to see the same tactics. If it wins games I won't be too upset.

I think the OP should just give the Evening Herald/Irish Star hype machine a chance to get into overdrive. He will be soon tipping the Dubs again, pushing out the odds of better teams and making me a lot of money

MesAmis, if we refer to everyone from inside the M50 ring as "culchies" why don't we just refer to that area as "The Pale", and the inhabitants as "West Brits" while we're at it?

That would be innacurate as the Pale was a lot larger than the M50 ring so it would be wrong to refer to as such and its inhabitants as West Brits. Also I don't use 'culchies' as a slur, its more of a term of endearment.

My statement is factually correct but yours is not.

Looks like preparations for the league haven't been going well judging by the story on the homepage!
You'd often wonder at the thinking of some of the rule makers within the GAA. They set a cap on the numbers of players permitted in a squad at 26. (Not sure if this is for league and championship though?) Now to anyone who has ever played the game will know that a good 15 a side game during training is of great benefit. True, county teams could draft in a few extra boys for the training but what's a manager supposed to tell them come match day? Cheers lads for busting a gut during the week but we don't need you involved at all today.

It's an absolute joke also that the Ulster Council ruled that once you had your 26 players picked for the McKenna Cup that was you. You can't call in players if needs be. In the originally scheduled Donegal Tyrone game we had 17 players available to travel down to Omagh and that included 2 keepers. There were about 6-7 lads who could easily have stepped in sitting on their hands. The game was postponed in any event because of the weather but the point still holds. I know this is the same for every team in the competition but how is a manager supposed to prepare properly for the league when idiotic restrictions like this are in place?

Of course it's not factually accurate, nor was your quip about culchies. The whole point in my suggestion was to try and make an even more inflammatory assertion in response to yours.

We're on the same page then so. Good lad.

Although my quip about culchies is correct. Everybody knows that.

In my eyes anyone who isn't from inside the M50 ring is a culchie. I used to be a lot stricter on this but I've mellowed in recent times.

You are right about the lack of proper Dubs though. Culchies have the place ruined.

Wasnt it in the 'Rules for Dublin Supporters' a few years ago.

"Do not make derogatory comments about culchies as you will just insult the parents of the Dublin players."

Call a spade a spade.... but to give them credit they were obviously a higher breed of culchie as they had the sense to make a life for themselves here in our wonderful capital. Rather than become part of the local gossip chain...

Haha, classic!

In fairness the culchies who make the commitment to stay in Dublin are usually quite civilised by the time they settle down and have a few Dubs.

Very well said Lockjaw, it's an absolute disgrace, and it's very limiting as well. Like you say every team has to deal with the same idiotic rule but I can't believe it got implemented in the first place. It makes no sense. This isn't soccer it's Gaelic Football and injuries will happen. There are more players involved on the pitch and there needs to be more involved in the squad as a result. I mean everyone was talking about what won Cork the All-Ireland (apart from their ridiculous fitness) was their squad. How are you supposed to bring lads through to the panel and blood them in to inter-county football with a squad size of 26, 25 essentially because of a second keeper.

Not even 2 lads a position. Shocking.

True JoeSoap.

I'm getting worried about the upcoming league campaign. It's a very competitive division this year and we really should be pushing hard for promotion. You really want to be playing the top teams in Div One in order to prepare for the Championship. I'm not saying that we have a devine right to be there or anything, it's just what we should be aspiring to.

At this stage on Saturday week against Sligo we'll have a starting 15 that have probably never played together before. No offence to Sligo but this is a fixture you'd like to think would be a banker for the points, especially as it's at home. There will be tougher tests in the weeks to follow, with more away games than at home. Here's hoping McGee gets his suspension quashed or we're in bother in the full back line.

Any word on how McGee's appeal went last night in Armagh?

He's playing well... Donegal are going along very nicely

Laois lost tonight so a league Final is a real possibility... going on this form why not!

Jim Mc really bringing this team together and it's obvious that they are working very hard for each other.

Didn't Donegal win the league a few years back and then lose their only 2 championship games? So approach with caution.. Saw them against Meath wasn't really impressed with Donegal in fairness that day in general, can they win an Ulster?? It's possible but I don't see it,I think Down or Tyrone will do that..
