The overseas Boards should quit spending their money on trying to send teams back to play in competitions in Ireland and put more money into developing the game locally. Everyone on here how it would be great to see etc and at the same time saying look at the team they have with lads that played county in Ireland. The amount of money that has been spent by GAA teams over the years in the US is ridiculous and what have they to show for it? Ironically its perhaps outside NY that most of the work is being done. Its not to say that underage is not happening but this is doing nothing to help it."
New York's underage development exceeds most if not all oversea organizations. Teams are entered in football and hurling at Féile, NY colleges last year won the Corn Na Mac Leinn Shield Cup, the New York junior football team won the Junior All Ireland last year, and New York teams have dominated at the World games championships so much so that the men stopped entering football teams and the hurlers most likely won't going forward as they are too strong. All of these teams were made up completely of American players. Both NY senior football and hurling panels have American born players on them, many starting in NY's historic win over Leitrim in last years championship. The American players need competitions like this to strive to play on as the number of players able to make the grade is growing every year

The New York hurlers aren't brought over to NY to play hurling

They are a panel (and backroom team) of lads that live and work in NY anyway. They are more than entitled to play for them

Maybe down the line we will see US born players on the team like in football, which would be fantastic

This year's panel that won the Connaught league included three US born players

The antipathy to Irish Americans can be quite staggering.

I know second generation kids from New York and been at games over there, and they are as much a part of GAA as any Dub or Donegal person. And more conscious of their heritage in many instances.

How many of the Senior clubs in NY have underage sections attached to them? is it one? Why is NY not part of the USGAA? If NY born GAA players need games would not the first port of call be their own senior championship and if thats the objective, stop all sanction players and join into the USGAA setup? Its great to see underage flourishing in NY and in the broader US after so many years of people running the GAA who cared nothing about development as all the wanted was their team to win the senior championship with a bunch of imported players.
The world games in 2019 - won the women's by 4pts and had the finalist in the men so they stopped coming 4 years later? bit like Limerick saying that because we won the All Ireland so easy they won't play again? there is massive room for development of the GAA in the US and it doesn't need playing in Ireland to do that. Could the US ever get to the point where its bigger than Ireland - it could and perhaps had the work thats being done now been done many years ago it already would.

Nearly every underage club has adult teams that compete under the senior board. Senior teams draft American born players from the lower divisions. 2019 World games men's football New York were not just finalists, it was New York A v New York B, they won both groups, they also won in 2016. Are they supposed to go over and play against themselves? Hurlers won by 12pts in 2019 and 22pts this year, in 30 minute games, are they to continue investing in this with the hope there is better competition in three years time?

I do not know why NYGAA clubs don't compete at the USGAA finals, I believe camogie clubs have been the past few years. Are they still on Labor day weekend? Could be a reason as football championship is still ongoing in NY

Spot on. Try to promote and grow the game here and in counties where it can progress, rather than having county boards trying to create a jolly to NY.

New York GAA and USGAA are completely different county boards.

New York will join the Lory Meagher Cup in 2025. No word on the format other than the New York manager saying he expected the format would have to change from a round-robin format, which would be impractical for New York in terms of travel costs. 7 teams.
It'll be unfair on the current Meagher counties to lose the group format just to make room for New York.

They'll probably get a bye to a semi final/ quarter final against the 2nd/3rd placed team.
Kinda like the tailteann cup, it's nice to include them, deserve their place after recent exploits etc. but dunno how practical it is given the costs involved. At the level they will be entering at, hurling is a low priority sport and the teams involved would struggle to afford the trip, I'd say Leitrim hurlers would likely concede that fixture if it was away, no chance county board would foot the bill for it.
