How Do People Prepare For All-Ireland Day?

(Oldest Posts First)

Just wondering what peoples' All-Ireland Weekend itinerary will look like.

I know a lot of neutrals manage to get tickets so this is not just for Kerry/ Dublin/ Limerick/ KIlkenny folk.

Any special rituals?? Do people have. a lucky jersey??
Does whole mysterious process of acquiring a ticket dominate the days beforehand? Do people engage in the whole pretence of not having a chance of a ticket -when in fact they're sure of one - in order to maximise their chances and their number of tickets??
Do people make a whole weekend of it?
Where do people go for a few pints before/ after?

Given that it's such a special occasion, I know of a few Dublin fans who go all out and make the effort to get to Croker BEFORE the throw in!

As most Counties don't get to play on AI Final day this topic is irrelevant.

Most counties are not Roscommon. Does that make the Roscommon thread irrelevant?

We had massive entry into our clubs draw for the 4 tickets we got given for each of the AI Finals. I will watch both on tv as I didn't win any of them! Hoping for Dublin and Limerick wins although I won't be too disappointed if the 2 kings of their sports add to their AI tallies.

All Ireland final is special and even more so if one s county is involved. As a child I have great memories of going to a special 6am mass and then onto the train for Dublin. A 4 hour journey listening to adults chatti g about the upcoming match. After moving to Dublin id normally have a good irish breakfast and head into city centre around 11am and meet up with old friends for a few pints. Recently I have started going into croke park early enough and having a few pints inside chatting away to people. I get very nervous when Kerry are involved and while I enjoy the build up I can't say I actually enjoy the games as nerves take over. To go as a neutral is a nice calming experience and one can relax but then jealousy sets in saying "I wish my county were playing today". All in all though I love All ireland day. Great memories and it will always hold a special feeling in my heart.

I remembered a similar thread happened before the 2018 AI Final. Particularly liked realdubs match day routine, very similar to me own. A lovely way to celebrate the 4 in a row back then. Will it still the same drill realdub? Sure why wouldn't ya! ;-)

Tomsmith here
Agh sure if you have to pay two tolls to go to Croke mPark, pay at the Berkley Road Chapel ( and pay when you go to the Chapel at home the following week) Lockhard has his hand out and will look at you in disgust if you dont hand him something above aEuro. A Bite to eat if you dont take a flask, Well that is a daunting thought facing up to Dublin. Coupled if you have to endure a long winded sermon sure it can be added purgatory if Cavan looses teh game. But on a plus side we have won many All Irelands including a great victory against red hot favourites Kerry away over in New York in 1947 .

In my experience, get up, have breakfast, take the train from Mallow and go to the game ;)

I wouldn't go to an All Ireland final as a neutral as I think it would make it less special if my own county got there some day. I will only go to a final if Derry get there again.
Also I wouldn't feel right about taking tickets when many people from the 2 counties would miss out.

Avoid Up for the match. Same tired old faces, and predictable comments, and tunes. Can't believe it is listed for Saturday night.

I've been at a good few hurling finals - only twice when there was a Dublin minor team playing - and love the day. Seen some classics over the years.

Been at two football and could not wait for them to finish as felt like complete interloper especially as Dublin had been beaten by one of the participants both years in seni final or quarter final.
