In hurling Waterford. 2017 felt strange. Think I would have celebrated more in an outpouring way if it was Cork or Tipp. Also i like the Limerick hurlers.

In football Down. Like us dominated the sixties with panache and style. Followed up by both of us producing great sides in the nineties.
Also had good time for Meath in the eighties. Very tough footballers but fair.

Agreed. While I was ecstatic after we finally got over the line in 2017, I definitely had sympathy for Waterford on the day. Whatever about Cork and Tipp, a final win over Kilkenny would have been the ultimate.
Likewise, the fact that it was Limerick who beat us in 2018 definitely made it easier to take.

Very gracious of you, have to admit I get as much of a kick out of beating Cork in the semi final as I do from actually winning it altogether.. we suffered at their hands so much over the years it was cruel.. beating them Tipp and Kilkenny on the way to the final was fantastic.
Couldn't have been more neutral in 2017 in that I was happy for whoever won...
Hopefully Waterford will have their day soon, couldn't begrudge them.

I always had a soft spot for Kildare. Maybe because the Wee County were always a bogey team for the Lillywhites. St Brigid was born in Louth and lived in Kildare plus the Boyne River rises in Kildare. It's hard to believe that that last time Kildare won the All Ireland was in 1928. They were the first winners of the Sam Maguire. They are the only county to knock out the previous three All Ireland Champions in one season and they did this in 1998. They knocked out Dublin (1995 All Ireland Winners) in the Leinster Quarter-Finals, they beat Meath (1996 All Ireland Winners) in the Leinster Final and beat Kerry (1997 All Ireland Winners) in the All Ireland semi-finals.

I think kildare lost a lot of neutral support with the Seanie Johnston fiasco and the strokes that were pulled.

Derry and Kildare in the football as I used to live in both counties.

Waterford and Limerick in the hurling. Would love to see Waterford get over the line at some point.

I was listening to Joe Dooley on the GAA hour a few weeks ago when they were reviewing the 1998 All Ireland Hurling Final, the semi final trilogy against Clare came up in conversation. He mentioned how in the 95 all ireland final most neutrals were shouting for Clare and they had so much goodwill towards them. By the time 98 came around the dynamic had changed as Clare had put alot of noses out of joint, for example how they handled the Colin Lynch suspension and the seige mentality Loughnane had cultivated in them.

The goodwill wears off pretty quick once you are successful...same happened Armagh, Tyrone in football.

gas that that waterford poster whose name deceives me was convinced that everyone in wexford hated waterford, and every wexford poster has a soft spot for them!!
having said that,i would have no problem if wexford were the most hated team in the country because that generally means you are successful

I would have a tendency to cheer on any Ulster team when facing opposition outside the province. I really liked Joe Kernans Armagh team.

I have a soft spot for Mayo Football....probably most of us do. I think very few people would have begrudged Mayo a title over the last 7-8 years.

In hurling I like to see Waterford, Dublin and of course Antrim do well but I don't mind either way. Its nice to see a team come through like Galway, Limerick and Clare have recently to break up the cycle of the Cats, Tipp and Cork.

I admire the Ulster sides for getting behind each other once their own county is out or an Ulster team is in a final...but is that goodwill as widespread as we think?

I remember when Fermanagh knocked Armagh out in dramatic fashion in the 2004 1/4 final....in the second game Mayo beat Tyrone and the majority of Armagh fans around me were roaring on Mayo as if it were Armagh ;)

More than a soft spot for me is Donegal. Love the place and the people, great county. Tyrone Westmeath and Down are also counties I'll shout for. In hurling Wexford and Waterford are teams I like to see do well.

I have admired the current Dublin team, what a fantastic bunch they are, they get a lot of stick but to a man I think they have been fantastic and great ambassadors for the GAA, Dublin fans too are sound and win or lose I have always found them good sports and the best of craic to be around,
the Meath team of the nineties, tough bunch who never knew when they were beat and great talent among them too. Derry team of the early nineties winning their first All Ireland, fantastic group and what it meant to the people of Derry.
the great Kerry teams down the years, Tyrone and Armagh landing their first All Irelands, thought Armagh should have won another one or two with that great team they had, Mickey Harte done so well with Tyrone,

awful miss now we should be getting ready to face Tyrone soon, stay safe folks, hope we are back following the game we love soon.
