HSE how are you, leaving these people make the right decision is a joke considering how incompetent they have shown themselves to be.
Also, the fact that cheltenham has been allowed to proceed would be laughable if it wasn't so serious. What a bunch of idiots."
Ya, how could the HSE let Cheltenham go ahead. Shame on them. The Horse Sport Executive is it?
If everyone just listened to HSE's advice, we'd be doing better at containing it. The advice is pretty simple, yet we see people every day sneezing all over the place, not washing their hands etc. We're pretty much following the same protocol as all other countries with a relatively low rate of infections to-date. People just need to do what they're told.

What about playing the remaining games behind closed doors? Not ideal I know but at least games are finished. Forget about football league finals, top 2 are promoted and top team is deemed league champion? At least then risk is reduced and there is a break until championship and time to assess the situation and how it's evolving

The GAA should show some leadership here and either play the games behind closed doors or cancel the games altogether and have no promotion or relegation this year from the leagues.. There is no reason to put peoples lives at risk by bringing them together at a match. Ireland has been later than other countries to get infections and should learn by other countries mistakes and shut down crowds of people coming together.

I think it is absolutely insane that we have not canceled games already...……..or at a minimum play behind closed doors. The fact that Cheltenham is going on is just nuts. Should shut down all gatherings until it is eliminated. Keep providing COVID-19 with food and it will continue to thrive.

I think at this stage it pretty much impossible to eliminate and at this stage globally all its about is about slowing the increase in cases as if left unchecked it would overwhelm the health services. People on about the death % etc are missing the point, the health services do not have the ability to cope with the serious cases on the scale that it would create. I see a club in Meath said they had asked the HSE for advice on what they should do - why is this already not delivered to the GAA and then out to every GAA club in the country - its not as if it wasn't to be expected. To me thats not a good sign.
Let me ask a question of lads here involved in clubs - how many of the clubs have asked players to bring their own water bottles? wash their hands before and after training? stop spitting on the pitch? simple things to change but are people doing it.

You don't need to be a qualified doctor to do the right thing, that is what the WHO is there for and their advice is quite clear, but clearly our govt are taking political decisions justifying it on the medical advise they are receiving. WHO recommends all countries impliment "........social distancing, essentially a soft quarantine, like closing schools, closing non-essential businesses, banning large social gatherings, and restricting travel, then there is a chance of slowing the spread of the virus." You don't need to be a doctor to know we are not doing this. The results if you do not do that is a huge spike like in Italy and China and then it menas having to do the hard quarantine.
But I have no faith in the HSE too many screw-up's. GAA should do the right thing.

I know, it's not what anybody wants but in the interests of public health maybe it's what needs to happen. I'm not qualified in anyway to suggest anything, just an opinion. It's only 2 more games, then hopefully if we deal with it now, things may be a lot better and safer when championship rolls around.

By right everything should have been cancelled by now, but the leadership in Ireland are too busy playing their own political football.

Bit off topic but I know a fella who tried that.

Gets home with a bit of a bruise on his thigh after a game so he says to the Mrs, "Do we have any peas in the freezer to use as an ice-pack ?"

"No," she says.

"Beans, then."

"No."

"What have we got ?"

"Well, there's this chicken we need defrosting."

So he straps the chicken to his thigh with a bandage. An hour later, he leaps up, and rips the bandage off.

The chicken is welded to his leg and he had a huge freezer burn that didn't go away for a month !!

Don't try this at home.

Will be lucky to finish the last two rounds of the NFL and its unlikely NFL finals will take place.

Roscommon are playing London on the first Sunday in May. The chances of that going ahead is slim. I'd hope the decision is made soon as many of us myself included have flights and hotels booked.

That's what I mean follow guidelines from official sources weather its HSE, WHO, NHS etc. Not stuff on social media from people who suffer with the Irish mentality of they're not happy unless they're complaining about something...

I think it's been a half-arsed approach by the government so far. I'm far from being an expert on these things, but it would appear that in places like Wuhan and Italy, which have been worst affected, the draconian approach has proven to slow the spread of the virus down.

So if we're going down the route of cancelling St. Patrick's Day parades then all logic should dictate that other events which attract large crowds should follow suit.

I don't have the answers as to what this would mean in terms of GAA competitions but a nation's health and well being should take precedence over all else.

Agree completely that allowing Cheltenham to go ahead could prove to be an act of gross negligence by the British authorities. I have an ominous feeling that our kids and grandkids will look at current events on Reeling in the Years sometime in the future and think, "what an unbelievable crowd of morons".

I didn't say you need to be a qualified doctor to do the right thing, also theres plenty of good people within the HSE, it wasn't yourself but for someone here to call them a bunch of idiots is completely uncalled for, the definition of the Irish complaining mentality I was talking about.

lol - hadn't thought of using a frozen/dead chicken. Would be more craic with a live one.

I'm not referring to the HSE making a call on Cheltenham. That was a decision they had no control over and was made in the UK. They are the idiots I'm referring to.

The HSE are charged here with advising the government and all other bodies with the best course of action and not making a call to cancel games is foolish imo.
You don't need to be a genius to consider that reasonable I think at this stage.
Mind you the HSE has it's own questions to answer about plenty of other cases.

There was a fella on the wireless saying that events out in the open air are no bother - especially with a gale force wind.

It's events indoors which are the problem.

I pass no judgement on whether this is blocks or not, on account of I've no idea what I'm talking about. I leave that stuff to medical folk.

Yea that's complete rubbish. Did he also say drinking alcohol was a cure as well. Idiots like that shouldn't be allowed near a phone alone on the radio
