He did seem to have a mind of his own which probably didn't help him.

Left a few years too early? Do people on here just make up stuff?

Tommy Freeman tailed off very quickly. Was one of the very best forwards in the country in the late 2000s but never started an Ulster championship match after the final in 2010 (when he was only around 28). Ended up retiring in 2013 when he was 31 I think and had only been a bit part player for the last two years. Still got the fairytale final point against Donegal in the 2013 ulster final, probably my favourite Monaghan score ever. FarneyAbu16 (Monaghan) - Posts: 8 - 16/12/2019 10:54:33 2255107 Link 0 |
...and injury related but I was sad to see Richie Power forced into early retirement. Was great to see him win with his club. Quite the win at that.

I see people including injuries here as reason for retiring but I guess the intent of the original poster was players who simply quit early for no particular reason..Eugene Keating, I remember him ok..fine footballer...Martin Dunne of Cavan does he play now, he was in inspirational form until the row between them and Armagh in the parade, I think his arm was broken that day, he came back there but I dont think he carried his pre broken arm form..many many players just came and went..we could be here for the day...

Andrew O'Shaughnessy retired at 27 due to illness. Was the most skillful player to come out of the famous Limerick underage teams of the early 00's would of at least had a Munster medal if he had been able to stay and maybe an AI Breezy (Limerick) - Posts: 1236 - 17/12/2019 17:09:34 2255384 Link 0 |
Tony Griffin for Clare, one of my favourite hurlers of that time, retired young too and missed out on an AI in 2013. Very interesting man, his book is a great read. FarneyAbu16 (Monaghan) - Posts: 8 - 18/12/2019 00:15:44 2255431 Link 0 |
From my own county, I'd have to say Niall McNamee (even though he is back now - those years he missed cost us badly) - an outrageous talent and one of our FEW players who would walk on to any other team in the country. tulachmhór (Offaly) - Posts: 145 - 20/12/2019 14:32:27 2255694 Link 1 |
