Replying To DuhallowRed: "Bore fest autocorrect" It was brought to my attention recently that 10s of thousands of school kids were let in free to Croke Park for the ladies finals. 56 thousand is impressive and by handing out freebies would help promote rhe game and rightly so but there seems to be a great silence about the amount of people who paid. If I gave out free pints for an hour to everyone in my local I'm sure the attendance in that establishment would swell enormously. Not sure it was tens of thousands, but definitely a large number of freebies given out all right. Something else that doesn't tend to be mentioned too loudly when they talk about attendances is that fact that every ladies football club in the country is made pay a levy of something like €150 or €200 early every year, and then they get that amount worth of All-Ireland tickets in September. So that'd be six to eight adult tickets, or 15 to 20 student/child tickets. Many clubs then organise a trip to Croke Park as a day out for an underage team, say, since they've already had to pay for the tickets anyway. They wouldn't necessarily be there if they had a choice of whether to pay or not. Both schemes obviously work well in terms of swelling the crowd for the finals day, so I'm not knocking them. They'll dominate going forward more then cork did in the past. Obviously ticket revenue would be lower but as somebody said the attendance was bigger then the semi final this year. That's all true and packages include mentors go free if they bring more than 10 girls etc etc it's about promotion of the game itself and it's working. You already have 55 - 70k paying in to see them every year. The Nally terrace is rarely open. Do what the ladies do and try and get bus loads of kids and their mentors into the Nally stand.
