(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I KNOW IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN, I HOPE, BUT FOR DISCUSSIOM SAKE WHAT WOULD THE GAA GET TO SELL THE NAMING RIGHTS TO CROKE PARK,

Sad as it is, I think the GAA would seriously consider this if there was some cash to be trousered as a result.

IMO we should never cheapen ourselves in this fashion.

AIG Páirc an Chrócaigh - They pump that much into Dublin may as well.

Sure the GAA are the originals in naming rights.

They named their main stadium after one of their first sponsors essentially.

Already been done so don't see why they couldn't do it again.

As long as they keep croke park as part of the name I see no problem.

The above example of AIG Croke Park would work. I'd guess they'd get a million per annum. They'd probably do a 10 million 10 year deal.

The GAA would have a big backlash but if the million a year went towards the players grant I think they could pull it off.

Divided equally between the 26 players named in each every squad involved in the liam McCarthy and Sam maguire competitions. I'd include the 2 mcdonagh Cup finalists.

That would be 55 teams in total. Roughly 1,400 players which would mean they'd get €700 each on top of the current grant. Not a huge amount but a worthy cause to justify attaching a brand to our stadium.

Personally, I can't see much benefit for the sponsor. Folk are just going to call in Croke Park, as they have for the past hundred years.

And I suppose their supporters actually turn up to watch them play there too, unlike some of the counties out there.

They will still get their name across in media some will call it by sponsor name but yeah better for sponsor to have just their name in name of ground like Aviva etc

I was surprised by how quick calling it the Aviva caught on with some fans. Maybe it being a complete rebuilt helped the feel that it wasnt Lansdowne anymore and even the Wikipedia page gives that impression

As long as it's not a bookmakers firm. Honestly I think Guinness could be a good brand but only if they promoted a program of responsible attitudes to alcohol amongst our youth and adults. I still think it's hypocritical of the GAA to reject Guinness sponsorship because it seemingly promotes drinking amongst our youth but has no problems shovelling in Croke Park.

Well if it was to be called AIG Croke Park it would just reinforce the notion that Croke Park is Dublin's alone.

I was just using an example. AIG would be better off sponsoring Croker than Dublin. They'd be targeting all of ireland and not just Dublin that way. Plus there's a lot of negativity surrounding Dublin and their finances and the AIG name is often mentioned in a bad light.

If the money was right the GAA would rename Croke Park the Queen Elizabeth/Arlene Foster/Boris Johnston arena. They sold any principles and self respect they had left years ago.

I couldn't agree with you more about a bookmakers firm. The most single handed greatest scourge in modern society being pushed down our throats at every opportunity.
I think naming rights for Croker could be a nice little money spinner once it kept Croke park in it as an earlier poster commented.
But going down the bookmaker route would be a dark dark shameful day for the association.
