I find it hard to praise them when, despite advertising it, the Tyrone/Cork game wasn't available to watch in the 6 counties. Whether it was TG4's fault or the GAA's and their obsession with segmenting broadcasting rights, I don't know. Maybe it was a combination of both. But either way it was very disappointing for a couple of thousand Tyrone fans who would have been looking forward to watching the game. Still, at least the GAA is a 32 country organisation, right...! Agree 100%. I watched both hurling games on the RTE news channel at the weekend, as gaeilge, rather than on RTE 2. The commentators (Brian Tyers, especially) are far superior to those provided by RTE and the co commentators (Pat Fluery is another favourite of mine) are insightful and provide meaningful comments (tactical changes, correct application of rules, opinions on key moments) as opposed to the RTE lads (Duignan apart, who I am a fan of) who just regurgitate back what the viewer has already seen. You think it makes far more practical sense for an Irish language broadcaster, who's remit is to promote the language and to provide programming primarily in Irish, to just broadcast in English? To me it makes a lot more sense to broadcast in a language that the vast majority of people understand (English) as apposed to a language the vast majority of people don't understand (Irish). I know they have a remit, but they do also broadcast programmes in English, I think a popular sporting event should fall into this category.
