Tyrone Vs Dublin

Thoughts?

We both managers completely change their teams or rest a certain few?

Can't see it, No way Mickey is going to want to see Tyrone turned over by a full strength Dublin team in Omagh.

Yes, Dublin might well put out a weakened team but that is still going to be a top class side so Mickey is going to have to match it to avoid potential humiliation which wouldn't be great preparation for an AI semi.

What I do think is that it probably won't have the 100% intensity of a winner take all game, but it will still be tasty.

Dublin will want to win the game, I expect they'll name a strong starting XV with possibly a couple of changes.

Yeah I don't think it will have the edge of a do-or-die championship match but it's still a home match, you don't want to be beaten out the gate and I think we'll see a good competitive game with the Dubs edging it in the end.

Both managers will be have the next weekend in mind - are you willing to risk your chances of getting to an AIF by playing your strongest hand? Dublin can afford to change their team a bit more, so I would expect changes but not wholesale.

If it plays out like this year's league match, I'll be happy. Both teams will want to avoid injury and Tyrone will certainly want to avoid a tanking going into the semi finals.

A few thoughts...

- Neither manager will care who they meet in the semi-final - they will be more concerned with the physical and mental readiness of their own sides for that game.

- With an AI semi-final and final on the horizon the 3 weeks following the Omagh game, neither manager will want to hype their team up for a war in Omagh, especially when the result is of no consequence. Better to keep their powder dry for bigger challenges ahead.

- Gavin made 11 changes before his final Super 8 game last year, and they still beat Roscommon by a cricket score. It worked last year, so I'd expect him to do similar again.

- Tyrone don't have the same depth as Dublin, and mass changes will likely result in a heavy defeat for us.

- Had Tyrone lost to Dublin in the league and continued their very poor run of defeats against the champions, Harte may have been tempted to try and get a morale-boosting (albeit meaningless) result in Omagh.

- An injury to Donnelly, Harte, Morgan or McShane would spell the end for any slim chance Tyrone have of an AI.

- Playing your subs means that those lads stay involved and gives them one last chance to impress before teams/squads are picked for the semi-final or final. It should be good for overall squad morale, so long as you don't lose by a huge margin.

- There'll be no narrowing of the pitch or nonsense like that this year.

- If Harte plays a full-strength team and loses, it's a major psychological blow at a bad time of year. And imagine how much worse it would be if his best 15 lost to (or just narrowly defeated) Dublin's reserves.

- I'd expect Harte to change at least half his team for this game.

I bet he'll narrow the pitch but will ensure deniability in some way after having to blame Sky last year and Sky called him out on it.

Mickey basically said in his interview with TeamTalk after the Cork game that he is going to make changes. This is the Tyrone team I would like to see start:

1. Niall Morgan
2. HP McGeary
3. Ronan McNamee
4. Michael McKernan
5. Tiernan McCann
6. Padraig Hampsey
7. Michael Cassidy
8. Richie Donnelly
9. Brian Kennedy
10. Mattie Donnelly
11. Kyle Coney
12. Niall Sludden
13. Darren McCurry
14. Cathal McShane
15. Conor McAliskey

There is a few lads who need game time to try and get up to speed, like McAliskey, R Donnelly, McCann, McKernan, Coney, Hampsey and even McCurry needs game time after his performance on Saturday.

One think for certain is that Peter Harte cannot play. We just cant take the chance of him being missing for the Semi Final.

Does any Tyrone posters know what is the story with DD Mulgrew? is he injured?

Yeah for the players coming back from injury this is a good game to get back up the speed of things. So McCann, Hampsey, R.Donnelly, McAliskey will start id start and hopefully be good to go for the semi final.

Petey Harte cant start. Far to big a risk and I would also rest Colm Cavanagh who's had injury problems this year.

Not sure about DD Mulgrew, I saw him the last day with number 33 or something so he isn't making the 26. He has had injury problems over the last year.

For Dublin id say Gavin will make 5-6 changes. It will still be a very strong team. I would like to see B.Brogan start. Maybe even Connolly, it would certainly raise the atmosphere.

I can't see Tyrone beating Dublin no matter what 15 Gavin starts with, they will have the advantage of knowing their semi final opponents by the Sunday and I'd imagine both will want to avoid playing Kerry. Dublin by 5 or 6 points for me.
