Croke Park, Super 8S And Should Phase 3 Be Respectfully Neutral?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

looking at the games this weekend balleybofey, killarney and the hyde must have been hopping. a real lift to all the home teams playing with 3/4 winning thieir games and atmosphere in each town must have been something special

now we go into this weekends games in croke park where from a cork perspective anyway ourselves and roscommon may be eliminated leaving us to play a dead rubber game in pairc ui rinn (not even pauirc ui caoimh)

thats awful for the championship and in a view aswell grossly unfair as teams are robbed of a home game while still being in with a chance of atleast dragging the games to the final day where winner takes all..and thats without even mentioning the fact that dublin start off with 2 home games in a row..what good is it to meath and cork having thier home games whist likely being eliminated from championship and thus not having any championship buzz enter navan and cork city??

final day should be neutral round as it spreads the competitiveness of championship to smaller venues..doesnt give a team an advantage of two home games in a row. however logistically as games must be played at same time neutral venues would be the only viable option..however 30000 looks much better in say thurles limerick rather than croke park anyways. save croker for semi finals and for whoever is playing dublin

Replying To KingdomBoy1:  "The GAA don't own Fitzgerald stadium it belongs to Killarney town.

Why in 134 years have Dublin never built a stadium fit for purpose?"
Who would be paying the grounds upkeep and the insurance on it if the county side use it. Seems an awful waste of money in these times. Probably made sense when travel was harder but if the county are paying insurance on more than one stadium

Replying To Thelonesomegoose:  "You could argue that it is only since the 1970s that GAA has gained a proper foothold in Dublin. Most teams from Dublin up to the 50s/60s were country lads playing for the county.
In fairness they did try to buy land out in Lucan not that long ago with a view to building a larger stadium than Parnell Park but were outbid I think."
Thanks for that goose, that makes some bit of sense, still for a county like Dublin and with that massive population not to have a stadium of their own and fit for purpose, it's actually quite funny.

I'd prefer a weekend away in Galway over Dublin any time. Unless we are in an All-Ireland semi-final, I prefer to keep away from the big smoke unless I'm catching a plane out of the country. Why must we unnecessarily go to Dublin?

Galway would be a good venue for Kerry v Donegal, regardless of the problems some have with Salthill.

With Tyrone V Dublin on a Sunday and if it turns out to be the dead rubber it's looking like on paper, how many Dubs will travel? This isn't a slight against the Dubs , I was at the game in Healy Park last year and was one of the best atmospheres I've witnessed in recent years and that was in no small part thanks to the travelling Dublin support.

What I mean is realistically its a fair spin up and back for them to see a game that may not mean anything, same goes for Roscommon supporters and Cork, Mayo and Donegal and Kerry and Meath. So I think personally the bigger problem at the minute is making sure phase 3 actually means something and if that can be worked out then sort out neutrality.

If Tyrone and Croke Park win this weekend, they'll be through to the semi-finals. When they play in Omagh, they will know first and second of the other group. With the semi-finals on the following weekend, I imagine the runners-up of Tyrone or Croke Park will play the Saturday semi-final with the group winner playing in the Sunday semi-final. Otherwise the group winner will be at a disadvantage.
