Replying To Sindar:  "Not true. Off the top of my head I seem to recall Brian Gavin and Barry Kelly refereing a few Hurling Finals with Kilkenny and they're both Leinster.I'm sure there are plenty of other examples"
Yep, deegan refereed the 2016 replay.

It's only your own county you can't referee - no danger of Gough being intelligible this year, that's for sure!

I thought he gave a good example of how refereeing should be done, consulted his umpires, pulled players up for off the ball stuff. Handled the first penalty very well. Sensible stuff.
That said, it did seem to be quite an open affair at times. As opposed to the tyrone/roscommon game where the ref seemed to let an awful lot of niggly off the ball stuff go on.

He can't ref the All Ireland if we are contesting."
Is that the All-Ireland Junior Final.I thought Galway beat Meath in the Junior semi final yesterday in Hyde Park.

1. Ref for All-Ireland should be from neutral province.
2. The problem with "celebrity ref" is that they feel that the game is all about their performance and not the players.
3. Gough is a good ref

If Meath play Dublin in the final Gough would be a good ref, he is so fair, lol. Up the Royals.

No he is not, far from it.
Games shouldn't be about refs, there should be no mention of them, thats the sign of a good ref.

Not a philosopher by any means. But nobody should know what a ref does or who they are. Mind you a ref living in a county shouldn't be reffing a game with that county involved. That's common sense.

That's even more daft than the first one.
What in the name of Jaysus does that mean.
Sure if they don't know what he does, how would he get a game and if they don't know who he is ,then the same applies.
I don't know what you're at at all. Are you one of those ninjas or what ?

Aye. And admitted afterwards that he cost Kerry the game

The only thing he cost Kerry was a free kick.

Im mot sure if Gough is the best. He misses double hops a fair bit. Granted they are hard to pick up on. The penalty he gave, and then rescinded was shocking. Got the decison correct in the end though but there was a sense of " look at me im a great guy".

I think Lane is better and coldrick too perhaps.

Coldrick didn't blow for a penalty for Roscommon on Saturday when it was blatant. The tackle on Smith as he was kicking the ball. (Don't take it as a gripe as we'd have lost anyway and it would have been a "lucky" penalty cause the angle for the shot was very tight - but it was still a penalty).
I also noticed that his umpires were out of position when Peter Harte struck the crossbar. The ball crashed down about a foot from the line. Both umpires were behind the goal but one umpire is always supposed to be on the goal line for such decisions. They got lucky because if it was marginal they'd have been in trouble. InterCounty referees pick and train their umpires and are assessed on their perfomance.
