So apart from our shooting and decision making, we were the better team? Wexford the better team. Better drilled and better organised (and that manifests itself on the field through lower wide counts and better decision making). Richie Hogan only coming on in injury time was stupid. He's surely fit enough for ten minutes and he couldn't have been any worse than most of the forwards who were out there (TJ and Mullen excepted). ballydalane (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1246 - 30/06/2019 23:24:47 2203182 Link 0 |
Congratulations to Wexford and Davy Fitz! Awesome job! Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2132 - 30/06/2019 23:34:01 2203188 Link 0 |
Congrats wexford. Thanks to you there has been 3 different leinster champs in 4 years. Next year kilkenny will be trying to bridge a 4 year gap. Inconceivable to think this would happen a few years. Dublin could well add to the melting pot next year. Hurling saving leinster as a GAA province. Jack_Goff (Meath) - Posts: 2920 - 01/07/2019 00:10:56 2203202 Link 0 |
Great performance from Wexford today with terrific individual performances showing great composure and accuracy when it counted. Superior touch and accuracy and bravery when it counted also. The determination and confidence of Wexford shone through and deservedly won that top notch match. No doubt the work put in by the previous management's allied to the present one made the difference. Have to be contenders. carlowman (Carlow) - Posts: 1821 - 01/07/2019 00:32:32 2203208 Link 0 |

Yesterday's senior win was the culmination of some savage effort and commitment by more than Davy and Liam Dunne before him. We took some fierce beatings over the past 15 years but instead of laying down to die, we improved our underage structures. Our clubs, our schools, many of the class of 96 and yes even our county board deserve huge credit. Our minor team yesterday didn't just scrape the win. They out hurled kk for the vast majority of the game. A special mention also to the lads who kept at it year after year when we weren't competitive. In reality, Kilkenny will do what they have to do and come back and beat us 3 times out of 4. But today we are the Kings of Leinster and we have some serious celebrating to do Ej (Wexford) - Posts: 355 - 01/07/2019 09:28:09 2203275 Link 1 |
Took a weekend break to Slaneyside so was able to travel up from Clonroche with Wexican amigos. Great crack, great occasion and wasn't allowed stay neutral. Still think Galway are better than the Yella Bellies :) but then I'm a tad biased. Never a classic but but despite that as ever being there beats watching it on TV hands down. I agree. Wexford took their chances and made the right decisions at crucial points of the game. They took their scores and their top players were outstanding, esp Chin. KK played well but failed to score or took the wrong option at crucial moments. KK are not gone, they have great hurlers and spirit in that team. Congrats to Wexford, they won on merit. baire (Galway) - Posts: 1823 - 01/07/2019 10:27:52 2203348 Link 0 |
What is so crazy about it. Whenever Cork Tipp or Kilkenny are beaten, the immediate response is that one of them was in fact the better team anyway. How many matches have each of these sides won against the run of play. and you should see how quickly their supporters would 'put you right' if you claimed the losing side 'was better' anyway.

I think Wexford were the better team yesterday. 2 good results for the neutrals.

I stand by my statement that Kilkenny blew that game. Wexford are playing with a purpose, are well drilled, tactically they got it right and such efficient shooting is usually a sign of a team putting in an optimal performance. Kilkenny are disjointed, seem to be tactically inept, don't seem to be playing to their potential (at least up front) and unusually, yesterday they made some shocking decisions. Despite all this Kilkenny could have won. Reid's two incidents of over elaboration and Murphy's 'lobbed-in' frees alone are a four point swing, then 12 wides on top.

Brian Cody has a great saying he repeats. 'The team with the most scores at the end of the game are the best team no other statistic counts'. BliainanÁir (Laois) - Posts: 598 - 01/07/2019 12:22:26 2203470 Link 2 |
Kilkenny were a bit of a one man show yesterday. TJ Reid aside , my MOM by the way, KK were second best in most areas of the pitch. I do like that fullback though. Maroonatic (Galway) - Posts: 1060 - 01/07/2019 13:02:05 2203508 Link 0 |
No doubt about the better team in the Gaelic Grounds yesterday, and the best in all of Ireland! Limerick's physicality, skill & management of JP's resources, not to mention pulling the wool over Tipp with their dummy team a fortnight ago - crafty! Fair play to them. They won't be beaten again this year.

I thought Mullen was very good for KK also. Typical Cody player, able to win his own 50/50 ball. For 19 he will be a serious hurler and will probably take the mantle off TJ when he retires. Unusual for KK they are lacking seriously in the forward division. 23 points is not winning you any games against the top 3 Munster teams, you almost nearly need to be breaking the 28 point barrier. Wexford were full value for their win, they found it easier to score and completely took Walsh out of the game compared to 2 weeks ago. Saying that, there is only a puck of a ball between them, if they played again next week I couldn't call it. At no stage in the opening 65 minutes did I think for certain that either team was going to win which is great for hurling. KK people might know this but what is the story with Hogan? Got no game time the last day, got 90 seconds yesterday. Is it injured or just not up to that level anymore? Buckley also, never got a run even though Murphy and Morrissey were having a torrid time. KK v Cork and Tipp v Dubs should be a double header in Croker. They would surely get 60-70k for that. No disrespect to Laois or Westmeath. I don't think Richie Hogan would have been up for the intensity of that second half yesterday..I know he has come on in other games this year and done ok but there was a lot at stake there yesterday and Wexford I think would have handled Richie Hogan...Buckleys form has dipped a little and I think he was subbed there a few weeks back so that's why he didn't start..one never knows whats going on behind the scenes and if lads don't handle being dropped Cody or any manager has to act with authority...

I think the Dublin GAA get enough games in Croker as it is. Kk vs Cork in Thurles and of. It suits the players and the fans. Dublin vs Tipp in portlaoise. It would be packed and again suits players and fans alike. Jack_Goff (Meath) - Posts: 2920 - 01/07/2019 16:46:40 2203731 Link 0 |
