Hardly a big issue though. How many Munster medals had Limerick in 73,94 or 13 or Clare in 95 or Waterford in 2002.

Different era, different baggage. Now it doesnt matter anymore as there is a safety net. If this were the old system then I'd say definitely.

There was a safety net before if you lost the Leinster or Munster final

I'm referring to before the backdoor.

Not an issue. Question was purely out of curiousity. With Limerick and Galway winning All Irelands recently it just shows how many players have won cships for the first time. In mid 2000's it was very different. Exciting time for hurling. If Tipp werent to win this year, then wouldn't it be great if Dublin or Wexford could do it? Not sure they're equipped to do that yet but its as good a chance this year as any. tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 27/06/2019 18:59:23 2201832 Link 0 |

Have they ever been to Dublin? They could be in for a big culture shock.

All the pundits are on about the extra space in Croke Park suiting Kilkenny, but as far as I know Wexford Park is about 142m x 87m where as Croke Park is 145m x 88m, hardly any difference? WEX98 (Wexford) - Posts: 381 - 27/06/2019 20:41:55 2201872 Link 0 |
Nice stat

Hard to call this one. Which should make for a great match. Looks like it'll be packed. Wex always had great support. I was sure Wex would take Kk down in Windy city. At HT thought KK had played very well against the breeze and would pull away in 2nd half, particularly after the goal went in but they didn't (which was down to Wex playing so well also against the breeze). I'll go for Wex by 4 and pitch invasion. Buachaillbui (Clare) - Posts: 118 - 27/06/2019 21:49:47 2201897 Link 0 |
I'd say most of the Kilkenny team have medals from 2016 as panel members but on the field of play I would estimate that about 6 of the team haven't featured on a Leinster winning team.

Wexford v Kilkenny is always physical. The ref the last day just let em at it and both sides were happy with that. By all accounts sunday's ref is a bit whistle happy so if it's a free taking competition we all know who will come out on top. I think there will be a couple of changes on both sides and Cody will definitely switch things up with his forwards. I'm really hoping Seamus Casey gets a start for us. He's quick, very direct and positive in his play. Ej (Wexford) - Posts: 355 - 27/06/2019 23:01:49 2201933 Link 0 |
We're vulnerable if Wexford play a sweeper and we play dumb and go long and hopeful. Kilkenny have been notoriously bad against teams operating a sweeper because Cody doesn't like to deviate from his traditional template of hitting the ball long and high into the HF line and telling them to "win their own ball". All very well if the likes of TJ Reid and Walter Walsh are catching clean ball but if they're not, the defence cleans up 75% of the breaking ball.

Very good stat indeed. Notably for the 6 teams qualified through the Munster/Leinster cships all 6 are the top 6 in the roll of honour. looking through the roll of honour I forgot how long it has been since Cork won an All Ireland. They'll fancy their chances this year. Definitely gone off the point of the thread now! Looking forward to the Leinster final more this year than I have in a long time, especially the potential Reid/OHanlon battle. Although I'd be slightly surprised if Reid isnt moved. tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 27/06/2019 23:05:06 2201937 Link 0 |

I'd be interested to hear where Kk fans think they can hurt Wex amd likewise where Wex fans think Kk are vulnerable. StoreysTash (Wexford) - Posts: 1737 - 28/06/2019 09:08:08 2201994 Link 0 |

Kilkenny wont be vulnerable its not in their nature. Full back line and full forward line possibly their weakest lines but neither would be exactly vulnerable. We will play 2 inside so that will help them there. If the ref goes the whistle happy route red cards might have a huge bearing on the result. It will be an intense physical battle so maybe whichever team finishes with the most men on the pitch will have a huge advantage.
