Mayo Upset At 7pm Throw In

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I read that Mayo CB are complaining about a 7pm throw in in Newry on Saturday week....

When are county boards going to stop this constant moaning and groaning about fixtures and venues?

Home ADVANTAGE means you get the advantage of playing at home!!

Home advantage does not mean you make it as comfortable as possible for the away team.
It does not mean that everyone should be entitled to a ticket.
It does not mean that the away team should be consulted for their opinion.
It does not mean that fans should be accommodated.

Down have every right to play their home game at 7, as have Antrim to play their game in Corrigan Park.

Ironically, I don't seem to remember Mayo CB complaining about a 7pm throw in in Castlebar when Kildare fans had to travel in 2016.

I'll give them this though, Mayo are some bunch for the "Why always me" / siege mentality.

The Mayo crowd are forever crying foul and conspiracy.

No doubt the Dublin media orchestrated the fixture times lol.
Its luck of the draw, awkward venues and timings are all part and parcel of going the qualifer route, same for everyone.

Gives the 'greatest fans in the world' something to be complaining about sure.

Don't take our county board seriously. Most of us don't unfortunately.

Its the qualifiers Mayo..Nothing new with them complaining, if its not the ref, its the pitch, or the venue, or the GAA or the weather, or Castlebar........Always looking to blame someone else

This game should have been fixed for an earlier time. Antrim V Kildare is at 3pm and Kildare have a shorter distance to Antrim. And people wonder why attendance is way down....

Its a shorter trip then the one to TIme Square. ;)

In all serious though, hope this is put back, i would be all about flexibility to make sure the majority of fans can attend comfortably and as conveniently as possible, with provincial crowds around the provinces falling off a cliff, i cant see many good reasons why common sense wouldn't prevail here and facilitate as many Mayo fans to attend as possible.

It will be the early hours of summer day morning before mayo fans get home which isn't ideal but that's the nature of the qualifiers, hopefully we can come away with the win, won't be easy.

If the game was at 7pm in New York the whole of Mayo would be fighting over tickets, but no it's in Down, the fans are suddenly broke and tired and too young or too old, lol

Kildare match was on Sky, and that is why is was at 7pm. There was also a 5pm televised game the same day. This game is not televised so no reason it should be fixed for 7pm.

I hate whinging and pointing at refs after games, I don't do it and most supporters who complain don't really understand the game.

But I actually agree with the county board for once.

This is a tactic by the County Board, create an us v the rest to generate a little bit of controversy, not unlike Kildare last year when the county standing with the team against the perceived baddies and you have created a great motivational tool for the team management to tap into. The Dubs have been using us v 31 for years.

First off Sallinsman it does not say much for Kildare GAA when they can play a championship match in a pitch that has a capacity of 2000 people. I cannot think of any other county in Division 1 or 2 that would bring such a small crowd to a championship game.

Mayo County Board only voiced what the supporters are saying. Many are not travelling (mainly elderly and those with small children) due to the timing of the game. In my case google maps says my journey time is 4 hours and 27 minutes. If I leave Newry at 9 and stop for a few minutes on way home I should be home by 2. I am travelling but have decided to leave the children at home. Nobody is complaining about having to travel but are complaining about timing of the game will stop a lot of people from travelling. Hard to understand why GAA want to make it awkward for supporters to attend games. Overall attendances were down 14% for all games in 2018 on previous year with gate receipts down over €3.5million and that is after adding super 8s. Instead of finding out why the GAA fix the problem by adding €5 to all games this year and €10 to price of all Ireland tickets. Attendances have been shockingly low this year. If GAA suits continue to ignore supporters attendances with continue to fall.

Nothing got to do with Kildare so not sure about the relevance here.... Kildare aren't (and shouldn't be) complaining. If they were I would be calling that out too.

Let me state again home advantage is home advantage.

Down are competing in the Christy Ring Cup Final that Saturday at 2pm in Dublin so it is absolutely right and proper that they would take that into consideration. It is not for Down or the CCCC to make sure everyone who wants to can attend any game.

Gives them an external source to blame if there is an upset and Down win.
Certainly wont be the players fault anyway, never is. Which is why most of them are practically undroppable since 2012.

The gaa will probably have to appease them by giving them their usual few allstar awards

Yes but t is a fact. It is 31 v 1. Always has been, long before our success too.

A not unreasonable request for a change to accommodate supporters if it can be done. Strange to say that fixtures shouldn't be arranged with supporters in mind. Who should they be arranged for then ? 5 o'clock not unreasonable.

What a load of waffle. I think you'll find mayo people blame the players and management for the Roscommon defeat. Also I'd check the 2012 team v today's team.
When did mayo ever blame the time of a game for defeat?

As for the Kildare OP...Mayo people had no complaints going to Newbridge last year and travelled in huge numbers. Some Kildare businesses have benefitted greatly by mayo fans traveling to Croke Park down the years stopping in and spending cash in your county so pipe down .

Sorry just assumed you were from Kildare given your name. Kildare obviously only have a few hundred supporters which is sad given the size of the county otherwise you'd be complaining about Corrigan park, I don't know any other division 1 or 2 county that would be made play there.

Pullhard - Stupid comment about undroppable players from 2012. 5 of the Mayo team that played against Donegal in 2012 played against Roscommon in our last game. 6 Donegal players that played that day played against Tyrone in their last game. We played Dublin in the semi final in 2012 and 8 of the Dublin players that played that day featured against Kildare in their last game.
