With a choice to be made, if winter time gets the go-ahead, there won't be many midweek club matches in April/May and September/October unless we all get match standard floodlights! m_the_d (None) - Posts: 1099 - 06/03/2019 13:51:34 2170631 Link 0 |
Majority seem to want Summer time to remain. It'll probably swing that way fingers crossed. RoyalBadger (Meath) - Posts: 571 - 06/03/2019 14:18:13 2170641 Link 0 |
It will be some craic if wee vote to change and keep to the same time all year around and up in the North they keep to their time change twice per year. Gaa matches up in the north played an hour behind us. OLLIE (Louth) - Posts: 12224 - 06/03/2019 16:47:08 2170676 Link 0 |
That wont be happening anyway. We'll all be on the same time whatever it will be. If the UK wants Winter Time and the Republic wants Summer Time then Winter Time it will be, you can be sure of that.

How do you figure that one? Several games would still be in eu, as would the final. Kind of I'll-informed comment you might expect from a west minister northern secretary! TearsIn85 (Monaghan) - Posts: 194 - 06/03/2019 20:55:18 2170730 Link 5 |
Geography obviously wasn't a strong point.

The most recent Gov report shows that as there's no baseline for analysis of the socio-economic impacts this move could have on the country, any change should be incremental and tentative. The suggestion has been to implement a rigid time structure (RTS) on a localized basis at first (Focal Point), as a test study, with full implementation based on geographic proximity to the RTS focal point. festinog (Galway) - Posts: 3097 - 06/03/2019 23:29:21 2170754 Link 1 |
I once had a graduate from UCD (who also happened to be a Dub) who had a BA in Geography, working for me, who was shocked to learn Connemara wasn't in Kerry. In her defense, she, ah, well.... Nope. There's no defense. festinog (Galway) - Posts: 3097 - 06/03/2019 23:37:16 2170755 Link 0 |
I know we're all speaking with tongue in cheek here but this has big implications beyond the GAA. We would have loads of people from Derry and Tyrone working in our place who travel in every day. Their daily routines would be massively impacted by any time difference between ourselves and the North. You'd hope logic and reason would prevail, but given what has transpired in the last couple of years nothing would surprise me. You only had to listen to the actual NI's Secretary of State's comments yesterday to conclude that the UK is in a low, low place in terms of their political appointments and decisions. On the issue here I don't see there being two different time zones on this island...Ireland will follow the UK. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11231 - 07/03/2019 10:58:44 2170808 Link 5 |
Yeah that would definitely impact me as well. I pack in as many Skype and Webex meetings as I can between 2 and 5pm our time with the US business. An additional hour would be a balls for 6 months of the year.

I worked in a state here in the US that is in two different time zones. I can't tell you the number of times you'd show up at a meeting to discover you were an hour early, or an hour late, because the organizer would forget that participants were travelling from other parts of the state. It wouldn't have been too bad if the drive to the meeting was nice, but North Dakota is not exactly known for its scenic beauty...

+1 - damm webex. A few more trips to the US may have to be done in such a scenario.
