The most recent Gov report shows that as there's no baseline for analysis of the socio-economic impacts this move could have on the country, any change should be incremental and tentative. The suggestion has been to implement a rigid time structure (RTS) on a localized basis at first (Focal Point), as a test study, with full implementation based on geographic proximity to the RTS focal point. What the studies have shown is that each time we gain/lose an hour, the incidents of heart attack spike, caused by people adjusting to the new regime experiencing shock to their systems as they adapt to the new, sudden, waking patterns. Consequently, to avoid this spike, the RTS FP will be located based on proximal location to the rising sun. Hence the RTS FP will be established on the eastern seaboard, preferably in a part of the country where a sufficient population exists to provide an adequate study group to assess the impacts of the imposition of the RTS. Based on the findings of that study group, gradual implementation will then be introduced to adjacent territories based on sunset times until finally the entire country would ideally observe RTS. I know we're all speaking with tongue in cheek here but this has big implications beyond the GAA. We would have loads of people from Derry and Tyrone working in our place who travel in every day. Their daily routines would be massively impacted by any time difference between ourselves and the North. You'd hope logic and reason would prevail, but given what has transpired in the last couple of years nothing would surprise me. You only had to listen to the actual NI's Secretary of State's comments yesterday to conclude that the UK is in a low, low place in terms of their political appointments and decisions. On the issue here I don't see there being two different time zones on this island...Ireland will follow the UK. I worked in a state here in the US that is in two different time zones. I can't tell you the number of times you'd show up at a meeting to discover you were an hour early, or an hour late, because the organizer would forget that participants were travelling from other parts of the state.
