Brolly and O'Rourke never had the neck to manage an inter county team preferring the cosy armchair but yet have plenty of neck to throw stones at those on the front line. Of course KW has made mistakes and this could well be his final season but overall he has made us much better since he took over."
you are correct, KW can walk away after this season or even after next season with his head held high. Taking stick from Brolly/O Rourke/Spillane and the rest of them is part of being a good manager, water off a ducks back. They don't have Eamonn Fitzmaurice to kick around anymore so now its open season on KW. I believe Kevin can improve, especially the timing of substitutes. Today it was obvious that Peter Cooke was exhausted from Sigerson and the switch with Michael Daly paid immediate dividends.

Sad to think someone like Brolly has the clout to end a manager's career. A paid shock-jock, GAA coverages version of Fox News, who has discovered he only needs to generate controversy to keep the pay cheques rolling in. While on the other hand we have a man who has dedicated countless hours, without pay, both to the GAA in general, and his county. KW clearly shouldn't be above criticism, but let's not forget where Galway we're only a few years ago, versus what we achieved last year. KW's only worry is that he set a high bar last year and will be expected to at the very least mimic that again this year, and the truth is other than both capitulations to Dublin and Kerry two years ago, this team has a bloody decent record. So when people are critical of the teams overall performances, what they're really saying is if we don't beat arguably the beat Dublin team ever, or a strong Kerry side, nothing else counts.

Time to manage expectations lads.

Gaillimh go deo.

I don't think people are indicating that - the general consensus is that in order for Galway to go from where they are now to the next level they need to start moving the ball faster and show more confidence, direction and slickness in attack. They have enough class in attack to do this which I think is upsetting people.

Hats off to KW and the lads for this result and indeed previous good results but is the style of play going to win us an All Ireland in the next 5 years? Personally I don't think so.

I'd agree with most of that apart from the last bit. It's not "beat Dublin" or nothing. There's more to it than simply winning or losing. It's more the nature of our performances in those games that were very disappointing. The feeling of not even having a go at times, instead suffering a death by a thousand cuts type of defeat.
If we go out and have a real cut in games of that magnitude, nobody can ask for anything more.
Today's second half was certainly better. We moved the ball more quickly and were a bit more accurate. We were far too deep in the first half. Kevin Walsh mentioned this in the post-game interview also and urged us to put more pressure on further up the pitch, which is good to hear.
Our conversion rate, particularly from goal chances is still very bad. This was a common theme in last year's league and championship too.
Considering the number of quality players we're missing, there is huge potential in this panel.

Totally agree with your post. I have nothing but the highest respect for KW and he has done his county proud. I just think more people want him out then want him in. Let's hope his fine record against Mayo continues this year and if he proves his doubters wrong that would be lovely. Gailimh abu

A good response Hopball (apologies for not doing the 'reply' thing; I find having the entire post one is responding to, included in ones response, irksome).

I agree with you; KWs brand of ball has got us to this point, and now it remains to be seen what he can come up with to push us onto the next level. Our current style will keep us in the top 10 teams, and I worry that the mentality of the players, more than their actual playing, may keep us in that category. The no-show against Kerry several years ago is possibly the best example of that; Kerry were no great shakes that day, but our lads showed up already beaten and it showed. Can this be laid on KW?

The great thing for Galway is the amount of Quality players we have at our disposal. There are very few counties missing up to 8 starters who would go to Monaghan and win.. In terms of fitness work we are miles off this time last year, so all good at the moment."
Who are the up to 8 starters? Honest question

Can't see where you are getting any points from, besides a battle with Cavan. Certainly not getting anything from Mayo, Kerry or Tyrone
Relegation might bring some reality back, the way you were talking last week, you would be forgiven if you didn't know better, for assuming that you were talking about a Kerry or Dublin side with multiple All-Irelands, the arrogant way you spoke last week. The delusion that you think Monaghan are actually in the shake up for the league title.

Wouldn't be getting carried away there Fella, none of last year's AI semi-finalists are going well at the minute, including Galway, twas poor stuff today, it's no coincidence IMO. We'll see where we're all at in August

You can add Ruari Greene and Sean Mulkerrins from the NUIG squad also. They are both playing very well.

Was that a 7 point lead you squandered today? Where will your remaining points come from?

Cop on to yourself. They're missing more than half of their team and have more talent emerging than last year. Most importantly they're missing Damien Comer, a class act and leads by example, though I'm not sure if he's still captain? Showed a glimpse of what they are capable of last year. I still think they should let their attack cut loose a bit more but I've no idea, results trump style every time.

Nothing to get excited about, that was my point, your friend there, is getting carried away, with a semi final appearance. Talking down to us last week as if Monaghan are up there with Dublin or Kerry , you aren't. There is nothing between a Monaghan, Roscommon, Galway or Cavan. If reaching a semi is something to brag about Ros have done it 20 times winning 5.
Monaghan have never won an all Ireland at any grade, Ros have Minor, U21, Junior & Senior & Club All Irelands, if we are getting into that.
We had 4 of last years championship team out against Monaghan, and a new manager. A good start, nothing to get excited about, hopefully we find a few new players for championship & secure Div1 status.

From your man Brolly "The Six Sorrowful Mysteries: The Agony in the Garden. The Scourging at the Pillar. The Crowning with Thorns. The Carrying of the Cross. The Crucifixion. Mayo's Croke Park Torture."

So maybe your right; with that kind of insight maybe I'm underestimating the man's contribution to GAA analysis.

Well you can't say I didn't give you Monaghan lads a warning. BTW Galway supporters, the likes of McDaid,Cooke,J Daly,Molloy etc must first establish themselves as senior county footballers before become sure championship starters.
