looking at the fixtures last night there..stating the obvious but the likes of Leitrim, Sligo, Offaly Westmeath Longford (most neutrals promotion hopefuls outside Down& Laois) their home games against each other and Carlow etc will be crucial for their chances...have a hunch Carlow will upset/beat any of the "hopefuls" at home in Carlow...its going to be tight in DIv3 this season..

Leitrim are in Division4, FairPlay, but your main point is correct. It will be a very competitive Div 3, all teams are capable of taking points off each other.

Offaly have a difficult opener on Sunday at home to O'Byrne winners, Westmeath. Then it's off to Longford, who have had the upper hand in the league for a few years. Need to get a 'result' there.
Away games to Sligo, and Down. Home to Laois, Louth, and Carlow.
We live in hope.

Replying To Barrowsider:  "The division looks a close one, Id be hopeful Carlow will line out at full strength on Sunday, good reports coming back on injuries so fingers crossed, laois Vs down looks like the pick of the round although Westmeath Vs Offaly also looks like a good one, no team is safe and there doesn't look to be a stand out choice for promotion either although Westmeath certainly have the pre season form I think Longford will have a big say in this division, roll on the weekend, for many of us in Carlow this will be the first time we seen our county play outside division 4"
Longford are fairly limited without the Mullinalaghta players. 1/3 of their team that started against Dublin last year were Mullinalaghta men. They'll be miss them for the first three games. I don't see any evidence of the McCormack brothers, Liam Connerton or Dessie Reynold being involved with the panel either? Plus Barry Gilleran has retired. I expect them to struggle for the early stages. Louth will beat them Id say.

I would expect Westmeath and Laois to respectively top Division 3. Nothing guaranteed of course. It will be interesting to see how Offaly perform under John Maughan.

How are so many people predicting Longford to be promotion contenders?? Its not like they have a huve amount of players to pick from....they only have 20/21 clubs in the county and are going into the league minus 15 players!!! 8 lads with Mullinalaghta, 3 injured, one exams and 3 retired. Not to mention, they have 3 of the current panel that are highly doubtful for Sunday. Longford will be battling at the other end of the table I think.

There will be a lot of close matches here. I believe we can get at least 8 points.

Longford narrowly missed out on promotion on the last day, last season so it's not a stretch to think they can't go one better. I'm pessimistic about Sunday, considering you have to back to 2017 when we last won a league game. The loser on Sunday is in big trouble already.

Yes they missed out on promotion on the last day of the season.....but they are missing 15 players...a whole team!!! And from a small county like that, that will hit hard.

I will pick Down and Laois for promotion and Sligo and Offaly for relegation. This week I will tip wins for Down, Carlow, Louth and Westmeath.

A lot of folks here tipping down to win. Down have not won an underage ulster title in 10 years. They have not been competive in all age groups for sometime. They should still stay in div 3 but that is our level.

Great win for Longford today. Any points while missing 8 panels members is impressive. Great thread about division 3. We get a chance to mention players like Robbie Smyth who would grace any county team. Roll on Offaly next week!

Correction, missing 12.....not to mention the 3 recently retired players. Padraig McCormack, Dessie Reynolds, Conor Berry and Ronan McEntire all missing today as well as the Mullinlaghta 8.

Replying To Fairplayalways:  "Down & Laois for promotion..Longford/Offaly/Laois potential finishing third, Laois getting the nod, Carlow/Sligo for relegation although both appear to be scoring well in challenges etc. so that's not a guarantee....I hope I am wrong with my own Offaly but I just think that Laois will pop them for 2nd I don't know why but that's my gut feeling..."
I know you'd love to forget about us but eight points up in O Connor Park twenty five minutes to go and you lost well you might just give us an oul mention next time for good or bad. Sleep tight.

Interesting results in what will be a very close division. Great win for Laois in Down last night. Donie Kingston coming on at ht seems to have won them that game, great player. Laois are a good side and will be hard stopped I think.
Super win too by Longford with so many missing. But I think that says a lot about Louth and they might follow a few other sides by going from Div 2 to Div 4 in consecutive years.
Big win by Westmeath in Offaly, came back from the dead it seems and following on from their O'Byrne cup win must be feeling good about themselves now. Tough one for Offaly to take though, must have thought at 8 pts up they had it won.
Nice start to life in Div 3 for Carlow, I was at the game as it was pretty comfortable really. Sligo had no clue how to break down our defensive system and only got 1 point from play in the entire game. Brendan Murphy ran the game and All Star nominee Paul Broderick scored 1-5. Tougher tests ahead for sure, but great start. Reckon Sligo will be facing Div 4 next year.

Denis Corroon's introduction had a big bearing on Westmeath turning things around. Offaly were controlling the game until then. I was happy with Offaly's display overall, but we have to close games out.
2 points lost yesterday.
