Galway Participation In Leinster

(Oldest Posts First)

I couldn't believe what I read in this https://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/hurling/galway-to-seek-fair-deal-from-leinster-37674068.html

Galway only received 15% of the gate receipts for game against Kilkenny, Connacht Council received nothing, which you may say is fair enough except they were expected to pay the match day expenses, stewarding etc.

Galway County Board need to grow a pair and demand equality, not a lot to ask for. If they don't get it they should walk away from Leinster. To be honest I don't even blame the Leinster Council........why would they give us more when we are willing to accept less!

When it comes down to it in the GAA there is a huge proportion of me feiners. There are also plenty that look at the greater good but the me feiners seem to always get their way be it be overturning suspensions because of a technicality or this ridiculous treatment of Galway. It is the same way with the treatment of the so called lesser counties.

I mean surely the likes of Leitrim should get huge help from Central GAA with regards to funding and expertise because with the best will in the world they will never have the resources otherwise. But the me feiners will be out if that happens as well.....

Fair play to Nicky Brennan he seems to be one sane mind out there looking for equality on Galways behalf.

I take your point to a certain extent but i don't think I am asking for Galway to be "given" anything. Participation should be on a level playing field. They are entitled to the same T's & C's as everyone else.

Now if the financial controllers in Croke Park said we don't trust the Galway County Board so we are not giving you your cut, but we are putting it in an escrow account for you, that would be fine while there is uncertainty over financial arrangements. But that is not what is happening.

What ever happened to just being FAIR? Am I asking for too much? Whether tariffs between countries or amounts different teams get, etc can't you just make it even and as FAIR as possible? What a concept!

Essentially the Leinster counties and Leinster Council are looking after themselves . Until Galway were admitted the Leinster hurling championship was as dead as the Leinster football championship is now . Galway played all their Leinster U21 hurling championship matches in Leinster last year and as far as I know they are not allowed to play in the
Leinster minor hurling championship . What is happening to Galway in Leinster at all levels is wrong . No other county in hurling apart from Kilkenny is turning out teams that are as consistently competitive at all levels as Galway are . That is why they don't receive fair treatment from the other Leinster counties .

What is fair is up for Interpretation. That's why there's debate. If Galway were to want a better deal it's up to them to argue for it. It does sound like they are getting a bit of a raw deal but as someone else has mentioned already they could do with getting there house in order before looking for better arrangements elsewhere.

I have no problem with Galway hurling in the Leinster Hurling Championship and it is up to them to negotiate their own deal. However what I really find repugnant is the way the Leinster Council treat the lesser lights of Leinster hurling. Like for example they "forgot" to include Meath in the 2017 U21 championship. But worse still they do their very best to frustrate any of the lesser hurling lights that make a little bit of progress eg banning Westmeath, Meath and Kildare from the Walsh Cup this year while permitting Laois and Offaly participate, McDonagh Cup teams exactly the same as Westmeath. If the argument is advanced that Offaly were McCarthy Cup last year them Meath can claim McDonagh Cup status for last year also.

It's not about negotiating a better deal. Just give Galway the same T's&C's as everyone else. You shouldn't have to argue/ negotiate. All counties should be treated equally.

I'd have no problem with Galway getting equal treatment. I always welcomed them in Leinster.
But it is fair of people to point out above that Galway have other issues to worry them at the moment.
