Who Will Be The Breakout Stars Of 2019?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

The league is around a month away now. Who will be the David Clifford, Brian Howard, Sean Andy O'Ceallaigh or Eoghan Ban Gallagher of this year? I suppose some of the most likely names are Jimmy Hyland, Darragh Canavan etc.

People always see the forwards as the potential stars but I see Mark Barret stamping his place as full back for Kildare. Early days but very impressive at u20 and so far in OBC.

James Conlon Meath. Honestly we haven't produced this type of player in a long time.

Not really a breakout star as most will know the name from Gweedore's run in the Ulster club championship but I expect Odhran Mcfadden Ferry to bring his tigerish displays with his club to inter county level. He is very much in the mould of the likes of McMahon and Cooper in that he is aggressive and physical with no quarter given but plays with no shortage of skill. From a Donegal perspective Jason McGee, Niall O'Donnell and the slightly more senior Eoin McHugh could be worth keeping an eye out for. In the case of McHugh he is every bit as quick as his cousin but I think was lacking in confidence especially in front of goal when last seen at inter county level. However he has shown up well in recent challenge games and has really developed physically when formally a bit lightweight.

In hurling I think Declan Dalton Cork if he keeps injury free could be a huge player for the rebels.

Cian Johnson (Offaly), Jimmy Hylsnd (Kildare) young Canavan is the cut of his Dad.

In Dublin we will be keeping an eye on the likes of young Oisin Lynch, Stephen Smith and Darren Gavin this Spring.

I'd have time for the likes of Ross MC Garry, Nathan Doran, James Doran and Peadar O Cofaigh Byrne but could be a year off.

Hopefully build on the development of debutants last year in Howard, Murchen, Small, Basquel, Comerford Mulally and McGowan this league campaign.

A daunting amount of talent there amongst last years debutants, just when you think there might be a spout of retirements, there's a man amongst that list to cover every position.
From my own county, Jimmy Hyland we hope will do fantastic things, there are a number of that u20 team that could push on this year as well but a young Jack Robinson would be my tip, other than Hyland, to be a household name in years to come, despite not having played u20 or being senior this year.

Also regarding hurling, these threads are for both codes, no use giving thumbs down just cos they're talking hurling

Think Jack went traveling last year. Do you know why he hasn't been called up to seniors?

He was in Canada last Summer if I'm not mistaken and for the life of me I haven't a clue why he's not been called up.
