Saw a video of the Moy game, few handbags and dragging but no strikes from what I could see. No sign of Cavanagh getting milled in it. gotmilk (Fermanagh) - Posts: 4971 - 17/09/2018 11:44:22 2142186 Link 0 |
Shouldn't be allowed to take handbags on to the pitch. It's just asking for trouble.

Doesn't understand Tyrone? Or doesn't understand football? As far as I know the rules are the same in every county and country.

Hey listen, I posted this thread, and if anybody on here can show me my own personal trend of an anti-Ulster agenda, I'll bow down and say ok ya got me. I was under the impression, seeing that it was such a mess of a game, coupled with the glum face on Sean in the picture with no indication given by him as to the cause of the injury, I unfortunately put 2 and 2 together and got 5. But I admitted that I could have got it wrong and I would want nothing more than a speedy recovery for one of my favourite players of the modern era. realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8596 - 17/09/2018 16:13:26 2142265 Link 3 |
Part of the problem is Cavanagh himself has not clarified anything on the matter and I see it is now being reported that last week he called for second ref to protect players that also is now being reported but no where has the man ended the speculation. It would help greatly if it was clarified.

You have to ask why Sean Cavanagh didn't clarify the situation.

the real tragedy in this whole sorry affair is that many media outlets and many posters on this site have been determined to put the boot into tyrone football...did anyone stop to think of how all this reporting impacting on the edendork player who collided with cavanagh...no of course they didn't..too many people jumping on the bandwagon because they have an anti tyrone agenda..and too many people including so called national media willing to feed into it as well mayotyroneman (Tyrone) - Posts: 1821 - 17/09/2018 22:07:58 2142323 Link 1 |
In fairness the game sounds like it was an absolute mess i'm a big Sean Cavanagh fan, monster of a player and seems like a gent off the pitch but I haven't seen him make any kind of statement on the challenge. Was it accidental, was it not? Was there previous between the pair in the game? Who knows? If you're going to make your injury public you should at least clarify how it occurred and whether it was accidental. I don't think anyone is trying to get the boot into Tyrone but the stats and photos from this game don't lie.

There is no "real tragedy" in this affair. It was a football game.

I have to say that how this story has been reported across most media has been very irresponsible. There has been a clear insinuation in all reports that Cavanagh's injuries came from foul play equivalent to assault. From all factual reports on the game to-date, this has not been confirmed in any way, with many accounts saying it was completely accidental. People should wait until they actually see the incident before sticking the boot in. Matt Cooper had a piece on it yesterday evening, and there was the impression that this was the result of an assault. RTE's website had reported it in the same manner. The fact is that to-date, there hasn't been confirmation of a single dirty blow in the game. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2046 - 18/09/2018 06:37:38 2142342 Link 1 |
I listened to that part of Coopers programme . He kept using the word culture and was very obviously in Sean Cavanaghs corner . It was obvious Cooper had his mind made up as to what had happened . Peter Canavan's response was very measured and balanced and was a thought provoking response to Matt Cooper's stance on the issue .

According to this website, http://hoganstand.com/Article/Index/290482 there were 27 cards issued including 6 reds, sounds alot for a match without a "single dirty blow"!

Apparently Sean C went for a high ball and came down awkwardly, was lying on the ground and an opposition player landed on top of him, boot first. There was no strike as such. But either way it fuels book sales. cacsmckilly (Tyrone) - Posts: 1294 - 18/09/2018 09:19:41 2142364 Link 2 |
Cavanagh and an Edendork player went up for the ball. Cavanagh caught it and went to ground and was turning to get up when a third man came sliding in and caught him with knee's to the head. It's open to interpretation whether it was deliberate or not but the video will hopefully clear it up. If there was intent the player deserves a long ban for such a dangerous tackle. Given the ball was high in the air before Cavanagh caught it, it is difficult to understand why the Edendork player came in as he did, Edendork are claiming he was pushed. Again the video should clear it up. A Another (None) - Posts: 193 - 18/09/2018 10:44:20 2142390 Link 1 |
