Should The GAA Introduce A Shot Clock In Gaelic Football?

Replying To FreddieFreeloader:  "Football is part of the entertainment industry as are all sports.

The issues with the game are not the players or managers fault the issues are 100% the GAA's fault as they have not have not adjusted the rules to ensue the sport is as entertaining as it can be.

The vast majority of potential fans for every single game are neutral fans or non hardcore fans and although the really hard core fans might put up with crap football because their team is winning 95% of people won't.

Your theory is baloney as only 1 team can win so if the current trend of awful football being played isn't stopped you'll have one group of fans every year happy and every else won't be, I don't think that is really a good way to run a sport.

Something needs to be done to rid the game of the blanket defence and endless tedious hand passing, fast paced attacking handpassing is fine not the endless round in a circle stuff we have had to put up with over the last decade.

The rules need to be changed to make the sport more entertaining , the general level of entertainment delivered by the sport in recent years has been atrocious."

What about the many entertaining games we've had under the same rules? Cian O'Neill had Kildare playing some great stuff in 2018 but other voaches didn't. They're not down to a more positive atitude from players or managers? Dull games also down to coaches tactics and players going along with them.

TV and social media, including Hoganstand has a big influence. Despite your claim sport is not entertainment. It's about competitors, heart, passion, rivalry and ultimately winning. TV and social media wants to sell their product and they want sport to be entertaining even though most working in that industry haven't a clue about sport they'll try to sell sport to bandwagoners. There are dull games in every championship but media can spin it like it's a catastrophe. But I still think the best teams will set out to win games by being positive. New rules won't stop some coaches playing with the fear of losing rather than going out to win.

Is the suggestion of attacking mark something worth considering?

Sport should be about entertainment, if it isn't about entertaining the public then don't charge any money to watch it.

There have been some excellent games under the existing rules but they are few and far between, the default option most teams take is an extremely defensive approach that should not be the way it is.

The proportion of absolute rubbish served up in recent years is turning people off the game.

There is a reason there are constant criticisms of the game from everybody, people aren't just complaining for the sake of it, the type of football being played and the low quality of entertainment provided is pretty much the main topic of conversation around gaelic football in recent years and that shouldn't be the case.

If you believe that football is part of the entertainment industry then the players have to be paid for making themselves available to entertain people like you. I love the way you pull facts out of the air - '95% of people won't go to watch crap football' - total baloney if I might use your on phrase. If Offaly were in the final tomorrow you would be there irrespective of what type of football they played.

No I wouldn't because I (and a lot of others) stopped going to watch Offaly playing, I could put up with them being in division 4 but the type of football they played bored me to death so I figured why should I waste my sundays being bored to death.

Sport is part of the entertainment industry whether people like it or not.

Be up-front, you stopped going because they were losing.

Shot clocks, offensive marks, this is all great stuff. Let's bring in scrums too instead of hop balls, throw ins instead of line balls, and can we have a guy playing an organ too like in baseball?

We've seen the mark used in International Rules. It's positive to pick up some rules changes like that that actually benefit traditional skills of our game.

No.

They were terrible for 6 or 7 years before I stopped going the continuing poor football was just becoming too hard to deal with, the poor football combined with poor results was a real turn off, of course if the football was good you could at least put up with the poor results as you were getting some entertainment from it.
