Galway's Early-Leavers Brigade

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

After Shane Dowling's goal, it looked like hundreds and hundreds of Galway people headed for Clonliffe Road.
What they almost missed, could have been the most incredible injury time in an All-Ireland final ever.
What is it that motivates the early leavers? Anybody who turns their back on their county men like that deserves to miss something truly incredible.
I know every county has their people who leave early, but after battling for tickets which were like gold dust, why leave? It'll hardly save that much time on the M4!!
Imagine if one of the Galway forwards had got a hurl to Cannings free and it ended up in the net - I know Limerick don't want to consider the thought!! But I did laugh that some Galway supporters could have missed something really unbelievable.

Eating the traffic I would guess .. I've never left a game early. if you're losing you take it for 70 minutes. the players can't just walk off the pitch 15 mins early. You win as one and you lose as one. It's very easy to support winners but you sort out the true genuine fans from the half arsed fans in situations like that. The two games that will always stick out as a Dublin football fan are Tyrone 08 and Kerry 09 and I can only speak for myself and the gang I stand with, leaving early isn't an option.

This might sound mad, and I can't explain it in words, but there is (for me anyway) a certain feeling around staying after a big or demoralising defeat. a somber mood no doubt about that but a definite defiance. It's like ... I'm not going anywhere, you fellas put the graft in and now we're gonna graft and stay with you during the bad times. Bad time have always made you fully appreciate and enjoy the good ones that bit more too

Yeah it was almost 94 again where Offaly supporters got back to their cars turned on the radio and found out they had won the All Ireland. Was glad for Limericks sake they hung on.

If that last ball ended up in the Limerick net I'd say they would still be sitting in Croke Park wondering what if......However they got over the line would have been a tragedy if they had lost even drawn.

Only game I ever left early was the 2010 semi against Cork, think Cork had just gone three in front. I was sick as a parrot and felt the ref was just ushering Cork along with soft or even non free kicks. I've never since seen the video back to see if I should revise my opinion.

Anyone who buys a ticket and travels to Dublin for a game are entitled to do what they want.. Mostly do so to get out ahead of the massive crowds. Its a common occurrence up and down the country at every game.. I was talking to a season ticket holder last night who left at 68 mins.. He was so frustrated with Galways performance and has travelled up and down the country all year..

For me, it is turning your back on your county men. Men who have given their lives all winter/summer to be where they are. It would serve people right if they missed something special.

Haven't seen such an early exit by a beaten team's supporters since...oh lemme think, Croke Park, July 2017 Leinster Final.

If you are worried about traflic when your county are in an all ireland final there is something wrong especially when there are loads of people who couldn't get tickets from your own county. Supporting galway hurlers has hardly been hard the last couple of years surely the deserve support to the end.

So they would have all left even if Galway were winning?

With all due respect. For a Dub, leaving a game early or staying, is a totally different thing for most other county fans.

Regardless of the comeback even if we were bet out the gate you should wait until the game is over. I was there and was surprised at the large amount that hit the road.
