Banding On Hurley

(Oldest Posts First)

What metal is generally used to band a Hurley ? What type of strapping is it? Is it tin? IAnd where would you find rolls of the stuff ? I know a few lads that scour building sites for the strapping off blocks.

Yes it is tin. I remember as youths we also used to rummage for Strapping of Blocks ECT.

It can be bought in rolls and I'm sure your local hardware store will be able to source some.

Banding on a Hurley is not a necessity though unless it has been 'pieced' fixed after being broken.

Was only talking to a hurley maker yesterday who was banding a few sticks for me, I used to band my own but the key is that the tin needs to be heated to a high temperature beforehand to take the spring out of it and makes it easier to bend.
