Just wondering who the Kerry lads see as favourite to take over from fitzmaurice. Peter Keane is the bookies favourite. Is there an appetite to give jack a 3rd spell in charge? Personally I think Liam Kearns would be an excellent choice. jacktheDub (Dublin) - Posts: 944 - 06/08/2018 17:58:12 2130101 Link 0 |
There has been some talk about Eamon Dunphy with Roy and Damian assisting. The game is closer to their sport anyway and would probable work.

Maurice Fitzgerald maybe. Keane has done well at underage. Might need a bigger name though. A bit more gravitas. There is a job there to do shifting a few fellas on. If it backfires on Peter Keane then he will be hung, drawn and quartered. Maurice is a legend. I get a feeling he will be allowed some time to get it right. Peter Keane will have to get it right straight away. Too big a job for him at this moment. bennybunny (Cork) - Posts: 3917 - 06/08/2018 18:49:34 2130117 Link 0 |
3 big egos there. Who would Dunphy moan about if he was manager? Duff thinks the GAA are dinosaurs.

Personally I wouldn't pick Maurice fitz as he too nice, I wouldn't pick Jack o'connor Either, for me it would be Peter Keane with Donie Buckley or pat O'Shea with Donie Buckley. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 06/08/2018 20:25:42 2130154 Link 0 |
Peter Keane as manager and Donie Buckley has to be involved as a coach. Kingdomson (Kerry) - Posts: 244 - 06/08/2018 21:03:17 2130174 Link 1 |
Pat O'Shea would be my choice but he may not want it. Peter Keane is the most likely at this stage but he doesn't have any inter county experience so the support team around him would need to be very good. Donie Buckley is available after leaving Mayo but nobody knows if he would be willing to take a role in Kerry at this stage. GeniusGerry (Kerry) - Posts: 2105 - 06/08/2018 21:13:19 2130180 Link 1 |
Give it to Colm O'Rouke, the man is a genius about how football should be played. Let him take Kerry next year with his man to man approach, see how far they get. cacsmckilly (Tyrone) - Posts: 1294 - 06/08/2018 21:15:18 2130183 Link 1 |
Pat Spillane surely? Knows what's wrong with everyone else. Seriously it's a big appointment, whoever gets it has a potential golden generation and great expectations so no pressure lillyboy (Kildare) - Posts: 429 - 06/08/2018 21:53:52 2130208 Link 1 |
It's one of the hottest seats in the country with the pressure and expectation it brings. There's a brilliant pipeline just ready to feed in a stream of young players into the Kerry senior panel but will the next manager be given the time to let them develop into a polished team? It might be a case of the guy in two managers time will really reap that benefit so the next Kerry manager might be the one who continues the foundation laying Fitzmaurice has started. There's a few guys who will move on now no doubt but in O'Se and Clifford there's a hell of a platform to build around. kildare73 (Kildare) - Posts: 854 - 06/08/2018 22:14:36 2130224 Link 1 |
Question for the Kerry lads, would you ever take a manager from outside the county? If not, why not? keithlemon (Australia) - Posts: 920 - 07/08/2018 09:43:12 2130319 Link 0 |
After Pat Spillane's rant on Sunday night about the list of things Fitzmaurice didn't do right maybe he should put his hat in the ring seeing as he knows it all, and O'Rourke should assist him seeing as he also's thinks the game is so simple and needs to be played that way. Fitzmaurice did not get everything right and Kerry did seem lost tactically in the last two seasons especially but that is all not down to the management. I don't think he surrounded himself with the best coaches in the country something the next man must do. From the outside looking in it looks to me that the manager should be Peter Keane, with a management team of Tommy Griffin, Declan O'Sullivan, Diarmuid Murphy and Donie Buckley (A must get to sort the defense out). Keane looks like the ideal candidate for me as he can help introduce more young players that they need. However I wouldn't rule out Pat O'Shea as the second most likely to get it. I don't know if it would be wise to go back to Jack O'Connor again, I could be wrong on that one though as he could put a bit of steal back into them, he would not work with Donie Buckley however as they had a falling out hence why Buckley left for Mayo. I don't think they would but maybe a Kerry poster will tell you why not. Off the top of my head, isn't John O'Mahoney the only 'outside manager' to win the all Ireland in modern times? cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5020 - 07/08/2018 11:44:23 2130368 Link 0 |
i think Liam Kearns would be the best.. Not for what he has necessarily done with Tipperary but more his style of play, savagely well organised, fast and direct.. I think this would be a good fit. i'd have him in Cavan in the morning.. ponger (Cavan) - Posts: 542 - 07/08/2018 12:23:59 2130385 Link 4 |
I think westkerry should throw his hat in the ring. He has an undying & unwavering belief in the Kerry panel & is well attuned to the failings & weaknesses of all other teams. greysoil (Monaghan) - Posts: 965 - 07/08/2018 13:43:30 2130434 Link 0 |
I Iike Sugrue. Seems to be turning Laois around, which is a requirement of this job, like his passion too. Only problem for whoever, is success has to be immediate mhunicean_abu (Monaghan) - Posts: 1044 - 07/08/2018 20:21:20 2130587 Link 0 |
It was always thus, a year without an All-Ireland in Kerry is a disaster, 4 years an unbearable famine. It comes with the territory - every player who wears the jersey knows this, every manager who takes on the role goes in with their two eyes open. Personally I feel the huge expectations placed on our teams is a major reason we have always been successful. Unfortunately Kerry has its share of nutcases just like everywhere else - people who cross the line between legitimate, professional criticism and personal abuse. We've seen the stories from down here in the last couple of days and no genuine Kerry supporter could condone such things. Anyway a lot of talk around my way that Diarmuid Murphy might be the man, seems Donie Buckley is almost certain to be involved too. That and Peter Keane being moved into the U20 role would be fine by me. TheHermit (Kerry) - Posts: 6354 - 07/08/2018 20:54:55 2130603 Link 1 |
