You're right, Blackspot. There was a clip of Charlie McCarthy shown on 'The Game' program on RTE the other evening. He was collecting a Munster trophy in the '70s I'd say, and in his acceptance speech was heard to say, 'There's only one team can win....and that's Cork! That would seem to tie in with your theory there.

I totally agree its impossible for a team to dominate for 70 75 mins of a game. I can assure everyone that this sunday will be no different with both galway and limerick having periods of dominance and periods of lulls. Limerick appear to have a settled starting 15 for the first time in a while and I don't need to tell you what our bench are capable of as its plain to see in last few games. I for one hope that dowling in introduced sooner rather than later sunday and given ample time to show the class he has.

'On form', Galway - unbeaten in championship for 2 years, as of yesterday, that's 14/August/2016, Limerick - unbeaten in championship since 17/June/2018.

The vibe I'm getting from chatting Galway lads about the match is... confident of winning the match but not panicking about getting a ticket...like if they get a ticket they'll go but if they can't get a ticket they would be just as comfortable to watch it at home or in the pub. In comparison to last year lads would bite the hand of you to get a ticket!! There isn't mad hipe or buzz around the County...everything is relaxed and calm and the players are keeping a low profile. The calm before the storm on Sunday.... hit them like a train and knock them into the middle of next week with hurling ability and keep it going for both half's.

Wouldn't say there is a lack of hype in limerick but I think the limerick fans are staying grounded,we have had so many false dawns, we are trying not lose the run of ourselves unlike in other years.

I think it would be great to see Galway win back to back All Irelands, opportunity like this doesn't come every year. Take and win as much as possible while you have the talent.

Yes, I see your point. My point is though they went from something like the 19th min to the 42nd (correct me if I'm wrong) without scoring the last day. I'd consider form the last 2-3 months so the Limerick-Clare game isnt a huge relevance to that, as they've improved with each game since. My own personal opinion is that I'd expect Galways top form to be much better than the Clare game. Granted they are winning but not as impressive as i'd expect. Harsh maybe but just a matter of opinion. tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 15/08/2018 12:38:38 2133555 Link 0 |
You've misinterpreted what I mean. I don't mean dominate. No team dominates for 70 mins. tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 15/08/2018 12:44:49 2133561 Link 0 |
Why did they start scoring again in the 42nd minute, I wonder? Necessity is the mother of invention, perhaps! Don't ignore the fact that Galway were awarded a total of six frees on the day, in your assessment of pedigree. Unfortunately, it's a critical factor, and regularly ignored by 'experts' etc. Let's face it, any day that you get only six frees in a game, won't be the day that you max out on the scoreboard!!

I see where you are coming from, and I agree, I was the same last year with regards Waterford. I would be delighted to see Limerick/Waterford/Wexford/Clare/Offaly/Dublin/Clare win an all Ireland... but not when its against ourselves. 5 All Irelands in 131 years... we cant afford to be giving any away!

there is an unreal lack of hype this year, its hard to believe that there is an All Ireland final on sunday. Going by form experience I think Galway will just edge this game, the lack of hype is of benefit to Limerick, however if their players get nervous the game could run away from them. Galway have not put in a dominant performance all year and I truly believe that Galway at their best cannot be beaten at the moment. I would hate to loose to KK or Tip but if Limerick beat us while I be sad, I would not be grunge Limerick. I am going to this Match to enjoy it may the best team on the day win and I truly hope that the ref is fair to both teams.

The outcome will prob be a galway win, there a vastly experienced team at this stage lot of the lads have played in several all Ireland finals, and that is a huge thing with all that goes on around the match itself, they have that winning mentality , they allways find a way to win they never panic and can adapt to any type of play and of course proud to say they have the master of all joe canning, we are so lucky to have a player of his ability and talent in our county. rhudson (Galway) - Posts: 1478 - 15/08/2018 15:17:15 2133619 Link 1 |
Yes I'd love to see Limerick or Waterford win an All Ireland, but not at our expense. We've lost enough All Irelands in Galway, so we need to win every one that we can from here on in. Yes it would be a little bit easier to take on Monday morning knowing that Limerick had beaten us, rather than any of the 'Big three', but I doubt Limerick fans will be crying too many tears for us should they beat us, so I most certainly hope that Limerick don't win this year!!

Concannon suspended after the u21 sending off against Tipp Miami305 (Galway) - Posts: 147 - 15/08/2018 17:27:10 2133666 Link 0 |
That's a bit harsh to suspend him for the senior final over a sending off in an under 22 game.

Have allways supported Galway in hurling , however switching sides for two reasons think it would be savage for Limerick and could bring on a whole new generation of hurlers , second reason I just love their honesty never say die drive , hope it's a classic , either way great to see another winner thats not Kilkenny or Tipp Damothedub (Dublin) - Posts: 5193 - 16/08/2018 07:39:37 2133752 Link 2 |
People go on about Clare should have won the game etc (im not singling you out here BTW) but they lad for 1min over something like 168minutes. Should they have won? Any team that goes that far behind in a game....should they really win? Add that to the fact that Horgan gave Galway absolutely nothing once they went that far ahead, lads couldn't buy a free after that...should Clare really have won? This is no disrespect to Clare now I'm just pointing out that if a teams lets themselves get that far behind then drags themselves back into a game, but essentially left themselves too much to do, does that team deserve to win?
