Longest Unbeaten Run In Championship History?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

There are some wise heads on this site regarding historical GAA stats.

In my limited capacity on that front I have the following stat down as the greatest unbeaten run in Championship history:

Wexford 1915-1918 = 20 Championship games unbeaten

Now I could be wrong there. If I am fair enough!

But if I'm not wrong..

Then I'm somewhat sure that Dublin from 2015-2018 exactly 100 years later.. have now beaten the previous record held by Wexford.

Including drawn games I think Dublin now stands at 24 games unbeaten across the Championship.

Correct me if I'm wrong.. I've done zero research.

Traditionally 24 is more than 20.....

Think Wexford were 20-25, records of the time are a bit inconclusive and i believe some of them were by's.

Kerry team of the 80s i think were next they were 19, a couple of three game all Irelands didn't help them, though they did have a couple of replays with Cork.

If its true its another great achievement to reflect on in the years ahead, nothing beats silverware on the table though.

Is it 28 Wayno?

They mentioned that number after the Donegal win. I wasn't sure I calculated 24 but could have missed out a few games

If it is 28 then that's no doubt the record

Even at 24 I think it's a record

Wexford 1915-1918 apparently had 20-25 according to username below with a couple of walk overs in the mix there.

@TheUsername

Correct it is 24, not 28, my mistake.

7 in 2015
7 in 2016
6 in 2017
4 so far in 2018

Did a bit of looking in this and I came up with Wexford 15-19 went 22 unbeaten, one bye vs Dublin.

Beaten n by Wicklow in a Leinster semi in 1919.

Jimbo there are plenty of stats such as the one you seek available online. Would save you the effort of having to post a thread if you check them out first. Just saying.....

It is indeed 28 he says as he feels physically ill :-) of course we have more games now in a championship with back doors and now Super 8's. That Wexford team were undoubtedly the superstars of their time and going unbeaten for 4 years in such troublesome times warrants great praise. As I recall Kerry won 8 All Ireland's between '75 and '86, (12 seasons) the Dubs have 5 since 2011 (7 seasons), another record may fall........oohhh there's those cramps again!!!

Some record for a county like Wexford with such a relatively low population. Respect!
