The photos from the Wexford/Clare game at Pairc Ui Chaoimh are something you don't expect to see in GAA, fans being removed in a very aggressive manner from the field, was this really necessary, a number of men holding an elderly man in a very vigorous vice like grip with his shirt being pulled. What is the policy there, are stewards Garda vetted, have they the powers to remove people off the field with force, do they need the license as security personnel do to carry out roles such as removing people vigorously. Did they announce it at the game & warn people of the consequences & how they would be removed. The whole thing of playing this game at PUC is to appease certain powerbrokers in Cork & justify the multi million spend. The Wexford & Clare supporters considerations never came into the equation. It's a sad day for the GAA if this is the road they are going to go down & there are huge questions to be asked as to the powers & training that stewards have to carry out such behavior. Uimhir.a.3. Not that i agree with the stewards did but why do fans feel they have the right to walk onto the pitch after the final whistle PyatPree (Cork) - Posts: 376 - 15/07/2018 14:43:03 2122083 Link 0 |
I wonder how many times people were asked not to go onto the pitch after the game? 890202 (Wexford) - Posts: 1278 - 15/07/2018 14:48:53 2122088 Link 0 |
Two issues - obviously the same policy at Croke Park is been implemented at PUC, if so doesn't seem to apply across the board - which is wrong. Second in regard to stwerdarding the law is very clear security personal MUST have a license by the security regulator - voluntary stewards are not allowed lay a finger on anyone - unless licensed to do so. I would take it up with the GAA show the photographic evidence and ask for the stewards license numbers. The law is very explicit in this arock (Dublin) - Posts: 4898 - 15/07/2018 14:56:29 2122092 Link 0 |
I can't understand your confusion with this? Cork gave it large on the pitch after the Munster final. But if the new Canadian princess can wear high heels on the Croke Park surface earlier in the week, I don't get the issue with the Clare fans. We had a similar experience in Roscommon lately with a difficult Roscommon steward after the Connacht final... GDL (Galway) - Posts: 722 - 15/07/2018 15:00:17 2122094 Link 0 |
I dont think no fans should be allowed not even after a final thats including cork, her name is Meghan by the way ;D

I think these stewards are on a wee power trip a lot of the time, reminds me of bouncers you see outside pubs now in big towns.. Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 2756 - 15/07/2018 15:48:39 2122117 Link 0 |
Mayo Mick took some stopping alright, bouncers wouldn't toss him out of a pub with great ease that's for sure.

absolutely disgraceful...supporters being man handled off the pitch after celebrating their win...was great in portlaoise last week to see supporters of both roscommon and tyrone coming on to the pitch to acclaim their players... mayotyroneman (Tyrone) - Posts: 1821 - 15/07/2018 19:17:53 2122291 Link 0 |
I watched the stewards surround the stand about 10 minutes before the end of game. Thye were looking up at the crowd as if a riot was going to break out. Even though I did not hear the announcement, if there was one. it was clear to me there was no going onto the pitch after the game. ZUL10 (Clare) - Posts: 693 - 15/07/2018 19:33:41 2122305 Link 0 |
Has there ever been an incident on the pitch after an intercounty game? county man (Limerick) - Posts: 1102 - 15/07/2018 19:33:44 2122306 Link 0 |
It is some joke alright you can't get to the Stadium (awful location) and now you can't get onto the pitch. You would imagine they would be happy letting people on the pitch. It would surely help with the traffic issues afterwards if half the attendance stayed around for a while. GDL (Galway) - Posts: 722 - 15/07/2018 21:30:07 2122405 Link 0 |

You obviously don't go to many big games. Nothing wrong with the location, in fact it's a 20 min walk from the city centre and very close to areas such as b'rock, b'temple, b'lough. You don't get to park up next to Croke Park or thurles on match days so why expect it in Cork? In saying that I don't think 3pm Saturday for this fixture suited these teams. Kk Limerick should have been the game in Cork this wend. Ben10 (Cork) - Posts: 25 - 16/07/2018 08:06:37 2122487 Link 2 |

Been to PUC many times but in fairness Cork used to be very competitive and it was worth the trip. I even got the row boat over the Lee from the northside as traffic was always bad if travelling from the north. But you can't get away from the fact that everybody that has been there since the renovation is giving out. I haven't had the opportunity yet to visit.

In every sense PUC is a replica of Croke Park, except in a smaller scale. The grass in Croke Park and PUC is of a specially cultured variety and AFAIK is quite different than the "ordinary" grass you will find at every other ground in the country. IIRC the Croke Park sod was even specially imported from Britain. I would imagine the fact that it is a "specialist" grass is one reason why they are so determined to prevent fans entering the pitch after games in CP and PUC in addition to the insurance reasons also.

dont be in a rush, and certainly dont be in a rush out of the place after it. one thing which is needed is some sort of foot bridge across the lee there.it will make the stadium more accessible. saturday was the wrong match in the wrong location at the wrong time.i said it 2 weeks before hand that the crowd would be tiny. not the stage an all ireland quarter final deserves, but the gaa got what they deserved. perfect10 (Wexford) - Posts: 3929 - 16/07/2018 11:28:43 2122593 Link 0 |
