A Dub To The Rescue!

Ok, the title will rattle a few cages as it has the word 'Dub' in it.

But interesting that the new President (a Dub!) said this morning he will try and change things so there are no concerts in Croker in July or August.

I have no clue of the proceedures to get this change implement, but it was a very big statement and made publically.

It would be more in his line to take more games out of soulless crokepark and send them around the provincial grounds, and that includes the dubs.

Hope that this implemented and the sooner the better.
Every intercounty player would prefer to play in Croke Park rather than have their fixture moved to accommodate a concert.

But in typical GAA style there are two different suggestions here, one keep concerts out of Croke Park and the Dubs as well. How the GAA is going to make money from the likes of some of the "atmospheric games" is something most outside of Dublin don't have to worry about as they are all class at holding out the bowl for some more. But moving along swiftly we also have a poster saying Croke Park is souless and another saying it is every players dream to play there - sigh no wonder the games are a mess with this fragmented thinking. its like knocking cement blocks with a baseball bat.

Why ban concerts in Croke Park for July and August anyway if the consensus is no one should play there! A simple solution is to let Croke Park generate the money for the GAA from concerts etc, let the Dubs build a new county ground, and then everyone will be happy - not.

Exactly. Leinster finals, all Ireland semis and final and Dublin home super 8s games should be only games played there. There's a huge need for a 40 or 50k stadium in the greater Dublin area

Arock is right lets keep Croker just for the concerts!

Is there but where and what other use would it have through the year? Where you locate it?

Have to agree, its abit mad not having the concerts there, a huge opportunity going begging.

Croke Park is massively under utilized as it is, what it will it be used for now bar Dublin home games.

Have you actually tried 'knocking cement blocks with a baseball bat' and, if you did, were you training for something in particular?

Well the bat would be between arock and a hard place.
I know, it's amazing. Thanks.

What exactly is the problem with having concerts in Croke Park? I don't see a problem as long as they don't interfere with the matches. To be honest the more games played outside of Croke Park the better, I love the place but there needs to be a crowd of at least 40k plus to generate an atmosphere.

Never thought I'd hear a Kerryman describe Croke Park as a soulless ground, they used to say it was 'their' home ground, how times have changed :D

Well said. The money earned from the concerts in Croke Park is a vital source of income for the GAA. Secondly, Croke Park is to big for a lot of fixtures. Take yesterday's Leinster Final, Galway v Kilkenny had a 40k crowd, fine; but the replay next Sunday would have had a lower crowd. Far better it's being played in Thurles, where a crowd of 35k+ will generate a far better atmosphere in a stadium that holds 50k.

It's not just the concert day it's the impact on the pitch also.
Not so long ago teams were having problems with the surface after the damage caused due to covers on playing surface.

Have to agree with that. Going to Croke Park is great but it's always more expensive a venue than others.

Hard to bring a family there 2 weeks running
